Professional Experience

Senior Developer

REAL TIME TRADING TECHNOLOGIES, LLC., Danbury, Connecticut

  • Real Time Trading Technologies is a small software development firm that develops commercial systems for use on trading platforms. I played a major role in the development of the P L system by leveraging my prior experience to fix features that were missing in the product.
  • Upgraded the UI to a contemporary look feel using WPF, Expression Blend, Expression Design, C and .NET 3.51 frameworks. The existing UI had an older outdated look that did not always render properly. These enhancements increased user acceptance and added functionality.
  • Designed and developed reports using Crystal Reports, C and Visual Studio. Used prior experience to deliver a set of reports that met the needs of end users. Existing application lacked reporting features.
  • Real Time needed a way to consistently release production and beta code to their users in an organized and stable fashion. I created a release methodology to solve this issue for their clients. Using Visual Studio, TPS and batch files, I organized a solution to save time and stabilize the delivery process.
  • Real Time required a developer who was intimate with the project, yet could work with end users during the initial beta release. I interfaced with clients during this phase and saved support time by handling and documenting problems and resolutions.

  • Forest Investment is a convertible hedge fund with assets of 1.5 billion at its peak. I led development and project management for their portfolio and risk management systems.
  • Forest managed six funds and used nine prime brokers. They needed a tool to consolidate their positions to manage risk and determine P L. I delivered a Portfolio Management/Risk Analysis product using Smalltalk and SQL Server on a Windows platform that enabled managers to analyze all fund positions, across more than 25 attributes. Additionally the system identifies areas to hedge against risk, leading to more stable and consistent returns for the funds. Internal development of this software saved the company an estimated 1 million annually in licensing and support fees.
  • The P L system at Forest required extensive data interchange with multiple integral parties, including prime brokers, fund administrators, clients and end users. I designed processes and developed solutions using C , Smalltalk and SQL Server to minimize the user's time and eliminate reporting errors. Saving time and resources, most of these systems where scheduled and ran unattended throughout the day and night.
  • Forest needed ways to automatically bring order executions into their portfolio management system. I married an interface to a FIX engine using C and Smalltalk to create routines allowing for file uploads into the system from multiple sources. This saved money by eliminating user input errors and saved end user's time.
  • With the option to house short securities at multiple brokers, Forest desired a way to determine the most cost-effective locations for these shorts. My solution was to develop a rebate balancing report that generated 500K per year by showing optimal locations for short positions based on rebate rules. I wrote these reports in Crystal Reports using data housed on a SQL Server.
  • Forest traded in multiple foreign currencies, but needed a way to hedge their currency exposure. I developed FX exposure reports using Crystal Reports and Smalltalk to identify each fund's risk to foreign currencies by currency denomination and broker, thus minimizing exposure to FX risk.

  • Forum Capital is a broker/dealer specializing in convertible securities. Initially a consultant, then a full-time employee, I established their IT department and wrote applications to run their business.
  • In 2000, Forum was acquired by Wachovia Securities. I worked with the transition team during this takeover and supported the trading systems while Wachovia developed and migrated Forum onto their platforms. This eased the transition by saving time and maintaining a stable environment for the end users. I managed the plan using Microsoft Project and Excel.
  • Salesmen at Forum needed the ability to find valuable positions for their client. I introduced a Convertible Hedge Trading System that incorporated analytics, historical and target graphics, flexible reporting, and delivery of pricing data to clients. Written using Smalltalk, this tool facilitated sales, while saving valuable salesman time.
  • Forum required a large amount of data processing to feed its trade valuation system. I implemented a distributed processing system to provide 24/7 job scheduling and processing of middle and back office operations, saving time and money by automating repetitive tasks. Technologies include GECS, Smalltalk, C, SQL Server and R R ReportWriter

  • Drug research startup required development of a commercial product to sell to clients involved in researching potential new drugs. I was engaged by them to design and develop this system. As the basis for their business, this system was marketed commercially under the name CPDR and was developed using Clipper and Dbase III.
  • Information fulfillment center needed a system that tracked and reported product inquiries. I analyzed the business flow and developed applications in FoxPro which were used by them to save time and organize the results.

  • Forecast published a 10 year forecast of production estimates across many difference markets. These forecasts initially were stored in word processing documents, making changes cumbersome and aggregation tedious. I developed a forecasting database using Clipper and Dbase III that centralized this data and enabled aggregation across market sectors. This saved time and money while minimizing errors and republishing.
  • Forecast had many documents that were scattered across multiple platforms. I implemented the firm's first network, Novell Netware, to replace this legacy infrastructure, resulting in considerable time savings.
  • Forecast bought a portion of Jane's Publishing's business. As a member of the transition team, I worked with personnel at Jane's to bring existing products to Forecast, retool and republish them. This augmented expansion of Forecast International into new lines of business.
