Server Uptime Tool
This project was developed for Cummins to monitor the downtime of UNIX and Windows servers. The tool records the downtime of each and every server on the network through UNIX and windows scripts deployed on each server. This data is used for reporting and statistical display of the downtimes recorded. The script was developed for UNIX and Windows servers for four flavors of each. This enabled a centralized monitoring of servers across the network. The project eliminated need for a third party tool to monitor resources and was developed at the fraction at the cost. Features were comparable to tools available in the market and reliable and accuracy of data was about 99 %. The architecture also eliminated errors due to link failures. Cost savings to the company was more than 50 %.

Interwoven workflow builder is used for content approval cycle and deployment of code and content to servers. Making Teamsite as a standard content management tool helped company reduce investment in support of custom made content management solution. Workflows helped streamlining content approvals and deployment eliminating delays and duplication.

Cummins Online Authentication is an in-house customizable application developed at Cummins for securing applications from unauthorized access. The application acts as a wrapper around siteminder which is well known for its a robust security model. The application interacts with Siteminder and LDAP to authenticate and authorize user to web applications at Cummins. This application was adopted as a standard authentication and authorization schema for any web application developed at Cummins. Integration with siteminder enabled features such as single sign on, policy based authentication and usage of LDAP as repository of user data.

The portal provides the functionality to add personalized content depending on roles and various distributors’ community using content management tool (Team site). Project saved Cummins around 200 K in managing the information in one place.
