  • Launched a technology and management consulting firm with an executive level IT professional. Secured professional services contracts covering the executive oversight and management of the automated master control systems in public television stations, the project oversight of design/ bid process for the implementation of public television Nielsen digital encoding architecture, the CPB HD Time Zone Delay Project, the NGIS MPEG4 upgrade, a NPR technology team organizational redesign and the WARN Grant Confidential /PTV System implementation.

Senior Vice President - Technology & Operations

Responsibilities:
  • Throughout the ten year term, I provided leadership and directed Broadcast/Media technology and operations, capital financial management, technical client support and new technologies project management. Managed a team responsible for Distribution Services, Broadcast and Satellite Operations, Engineering Planning and Implementation, Information Technology, Digital Television Strategic Planning and Cable/DBS relationship management. Supported the needs of a 130 person staff, and directly secured and controlled an operating expense budget of $24M and capital budget of $3-4M annually.
  • In 1996, I inherited a technical and operations team that was not favorably viewed by their customers and ill prepared for the technology explosion in front of them. Over the next three years with aggressive recruiting, a two phase re-engineering of the entire Corporate Area and the implementation of performance and development plans, I turned the tide. From 1999 to 2006 the Corporate Area was #1 in customer service, value and satisfaction.
  • In 1997, Confidential had a catastrophic failure of it satellite interconnection system; in effect the network went dark. Within 36 hours, I had secured temporary satellite capacity, placing the network on the air and back in business. I was the lead negotiator for the acquisition of 9 satellite transponders. The $ 65M dollar, ten year deal closed in October of 1997.
  • Board liaison to two Sub-Committees: New Technology & Distribution and Member Services. Provided broadcast TV, distribution and technical oversight. Secured approval on all technology projects over my tenure.
  • Provided leadership and oversight to the development of public television’s Next Generation Interconnection System (NGIS). As public television’s spokesperson on the technology and its value in serving the American Public, I was principally responsible for securing $120M of federal appropriations for the implementation of NGIS.
  • In 2001, when many large companies were struggling with the implementation of a Corporate level ERP System, my organization led the development, project planning and flawless implementation of a $ 6M dollar Oracle ERP System, which is still in operation today.
  • Successfully developed strong business relationship with the cable MSO’s and their trade association NCTA. Completed digital content carriage contracts with AOL-Time Warner, Insight, Confidential and Cox Communications and 13 other MSO’s, reaching 55M households.
  • Directed the development of public television’s DTV technology roadmap. Successfully migrated 96.5% of the 356 stations to digital distribution. Launched the development and adoption of HD production and distribution. and effectively lobbied with CPB and APTS the Senate and Congress to appropriate over $ 400M in matching funds for the PTV DTV transition.
  • Built a new technical facility on the site of the original Satellite Uplink Center. It is a two building campus, housing approximately 100 people, the infrastructure required for broadcast distribution and the main Confidential data center. Merging all functions and resource into the same campus, significantly improved the efficiency of the operation and reduced future capital requirements.

Responsibilities:
  • Built a start-up team in Upstate NY to enter Confidential &T into the Local Telephone Service market
  • Developed market entry plans and launched Confidential &T’s bundled offer (Local, Cell, LD and DTH satellite) for local service in the Rochester, New York and Connecticut.
  • Was responsible for revenue and MOI in a territory with income over $450M annually, grew CSG’s revenue in territory by 16% and managed an operating budget of $4.5M.

National Sales Director - TV Video Distribution & Multimedia Sales

Responsibilities:
  • Directed marketing/sales, P&L, technical support and project management on a team, responsible for serving the video/interactive data distribution and management needs of approximately 150 media industry clients with annual sales of $80-90M, a staff of 20 and a budget of $2.6M.
  • Developed and executed the business plan for a hybrid Digital offer, Video Distribution Management Service (VDMS) generating over $38M dollars over a two year period.
  • Directed the marketing/sales effort, secured over $ 21M dollars in contracts and project managed domestic and Global TV video/audio service for the World Cup ’94 Soccer event and the 1996 Olympics.
  • Controlled marketing/sales, P&L, order process, technical support and billing for an industry segment with annual sales of $160M and a staff of 96; sales and marketing of Satellite Service, PBX, Computer, Data Network Service and Long Distance Network Transport.
  • Developed and managed a nationwide organization of national account managers, sales managers, branch technical systems managers, 48 sales/billing representatives and inter-office personnel.
  • Directed the sales and marketing effort of Confidential &T’s Telstar 4 satellite offer. Secured contracts from TV Network clients ABC and Confidential in 1989 and 1990, generating $115M of new revenue
