SUMMARY
Most of my experience has been on Mainframe COBOL/CICS/DB2/VSAM computer systems. Recognizing that information technology (IT) environments are becoming more heterogeneous, I’ve been aggressively learning new personal computer (PC) and Internet/Web skills to complement my Mainframe skills. I’ve completed IUPUI classes on Visual Basic.NET (VB.NET), which is basically an introduction to Microsoft’s Integrated Development Environment (IDE) and programming syntax, ASP.NET (VB.NET’s Web development environment) and ADO.NET (VB.NET’s SQL Database development environment). I chose VB.NET because the syntax was very similar to original BASIC which I learned in high school. This made the learning curve much easier. The ASP.NET class was geared toward learning all of the necessary skills needed for the final Web project which entailed creating an Internet shopping site like Amazon.com. I’m currently taking classes to earn the Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) certification.

I worked on enhancements to a relatively new system that was used by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to identify customers that were linked to possible terrorists. Approximately 15% of my time was spent on new development and 85% was maintenance. On an as needed basis, I worked on production problem (ABEND) fixes. I worked on the new clearance catalogs project which allowed the company to handle selling clearance inventory on its own. That dramatically reduced the selling of clearance items to outside discount companies at pennies on the dollar. I worked on the direct mail system that involved various criteria to select the most profitable existing and new customers to promote to using catalogs, e-mails and the company internet site.
