PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
Confidential,Columbus,OH
Manager, DBA, and Software Engineer
Responsibilities:- Scrum master for new software products written in C# and the .NET Framework. Ran the first agile project at Confidential, introducing the practices of working as a team, sprint planning, show and tell. The new product was delivered in half the time with a fraction of the quality and support problems the company previously experienced with new products.
- Device abstraction: designed and led a team to replace obsolete hardware components with software. The software featured better visibility of operations, enhanced configuration capabilities, in-program diagnostics, an integrated test capability, and the ability to reproduce problems encountered in the field, brought back to the development environment. This software component was easy to modify and enhance, in sharp contrast to the hardware it replaced, and 12 versions were released in a 6 year period.
- VoIP integration with traditional PBX: voice over IP is a newer technology in 911 call centers and the message switching device abstraction software provided the integration component between Voice over IP and legacy PBX's and CAMA trunks provided by telephone carriers. The new 911 Call Center software can handle any kind of call, from any generation of telephone service (wireline, phase 1 cell phone, phase 2 cell phone, Voice over IP, and SMS texting). The new system provided for answering non-911 calls as well as 911 calls which added additional load and complexity to the deployed solutions. This feature increased market acceptance dramatically in the PSAP space.
- The device abstraction became the cornerstone message switching software that is now installed at over 100 customer sites (revenue varies between $150,000 and $1.5 million per site). The company's revitalized 911 Call Center software re-established Confidential as “the company to beat” in the small to medium sized PSAP market.
- Identified the root cause for many field issues that were not identified in the company's QA processes. These problems were major customer issues like lockups, unable to answer a call, unable to start a call.
- Provide technical troubleshooting for customer problems to customer service and field service.
- Contribute to technical decisions around database, software architecture, and staff assignments.
