  • This project came about from my initiative to better automate the job of our operators prior to the company moving to a WINDOWS OS and using an actual scheduler. At the time the operators had to use much of the day looking for production files from customers, putting the files to tape, and processing them on the mainframe.
  • I created an interface that was a single screen that would tell them if a production file was present, by whom and allow them to process it on the mainframe with a simple click.
  • This utilized VISUAL BASIC to create the application. Custom MS DOS batch files and FTP commands to access the mainframe and transfer the JCL. And on the mainframe side it used GENIOS to read the data files from an NT-SERVER.
  • This idea and application saved the company time, reduced human errors and increased the timeliness of actual production.
