Wachovia\'s Customer Information System (CIS), initially implemented in 1979, evolved in response to the corporation\'s need to know more about a customer\'s total relationship.

CIS is comprised of two major subsystems –

  • Customer Subsystem
  • Account Subsystem

Customer Subsystem - The Customer provides the capability to relate a customer to all owned accounts by consolidating customer information across the service areas. This process takes three forms. First, users opening accounts online via the ASAP system pool the CIS customer record(s) to which the new account record should be linked. Second, customer data can be extracted from the databases and compared for matches. Third, the users may combine customer records online when they have identified that multiple customer records exist for the same customer.

Account Subsystem - The Account Subsystem provides the means for accessing the detailed information about accounts. Batch and online interfaces between CIS and the application systems feed new account and maintenance transactions to CIS. For some types of maintenance such as account tax id and address, CIS is the point of origination and sends maintenance to the application.

This system has several interfaces in order to process card requests originating from different system, to load all the data into a common repository and to send data to another system in order to generate documents few of which will be sent to customers.

This system has highly integrated design so that change in any of the elements in the system causes changes to several other elements. It is designed such a way for more user-friendly to end users. Hence, it required lot of analysis before any modification. Moreover we have changes every month to this system and we have monthly install for those changes, which makes quite challenging to maintain and enhance the system to meet client’s high expectations.
