PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
Scrum Master
Confidential, Indianapolis, IN
Responsibilities:
- All Traditional Scrum Master Duties
- 3 Teams sizes 7 - 8, 2 teams onsite 100% 1 team had 1 member remote.
- Jira was utilized for maintaining the backlog
- 2 Teams utilized 2 week Sprints and 1 team utilized 3 week sprints
- 2 of the teams were long term established teams 1 team was newly formed (less than 3 months)
- The environment was very agile/scrum but was not textbook scrum. Sprint reviews and retrospectives were done during the following sprint not at the end of the current sprint. Teams worked on multiple projects at once instead of swarming a single project.
- Review facilitation was more in-depth here than previous roles. It was required that a slide presentation was produced showing current sprints burn down chart, the past 8 sprints sprint goal and and actually completed story points, the current active sprints goal and associated stories. These were also recorded and storied in confluence so they could be reviewed later.
- Retrospectives followed a traditional retrospective format of what went well, what didn’t go well, what can we change, what do we want to keep doing.
- Sprint planning was handled every 2 weeks individual with each team to facilitate this meeting I would display the backlog on the TV in the team room and would walk the teams through story decomposition when necessary.
- The newer team required much more hands on work than my other 2 teams. The product owner was new and the team members were new. Most were familiar with Agile concepts but not at applying them real world. I was able to successfully work with this team and transform the company’s perspective of the team as failing and untrustworthy into a team that trusted by the organization and were actively given high profile projects to complete.
- Introduced a new template for project completion projection. It was a simple project burnup chart that showed initial project project, current project based on average velocity and story points addition/subtractions. Went over well with the business.
