Velocity
This project is an infrastructure project. Velocity is a 3rd party application Wachovia acquired as part of a previous merger. The application manages the underwriting and rates for insurance policies. As part of the merger effort, this application needed to be used by Wells Fargo as well. My responsibilities included:
- Assess the hardware and software needs for Wachovia and Wells Fargo Special Risk groups to use the application
- Upgrade the software to meet the bank underwriting legal obligations
- Upgrade the Hardware and Software to meet Wells Fargo standard
- Design an architecture to host the system in a data center
- Design a multi environment architecture to include Production, Business Continuity (BCP) and testing
- The architecture must be able to expand to bring more LOBs into the system in the future
- Migrate the existing system into the new architecture
Legal Entity Consolidation
This project was part of the merger efforts between Wells Fargo and Wachovia. Applications, including email system, needed to change to reflect the new merged company and all of its subsidiaries.
My responsibilities included:
- Meeting with the business to identify the impact on each application in both Wells Fargo and Wachovia Insurance Services
- Change all the applications to reflect the appropriate new legal entity name
- Change the email system from Wachovia.com to WellsFargo.com

Customer Credit Bureau Refresh (CCBR)
- Responsible for building the first Credit Bureau data mart (data warehouse) from the ground up to help several lines of businesses (LOBs) to gather data and run risk analysis on their customer.
- Responsible for managing project deliverables (charter, project plan, requirements document, risk management plan, change control, stakeholders communication and client acceptance plan)
- This $1,000,000 + project is built in Teradata and using Six Sigma methodology.
- The data mart centralizes the daily feed from Credit Bureau and the daily data distribution to LOBs. By doing so, the bank is able to streamline the credit bureau reporting and react to the risks on a daily bases.
- The data mart must be in full compliance with BASEL. The triggering system must guarantee every Bank of America customer is refreshed at least once over the past 90 days.
- The data mart reduces cost, meets the legal requirements of permissible purpose for data usage and provides a viable tool for data mining and modeling.
- The data mart receives and loads anywhere from 1,000,000 to 8,000,000 records a day from Trans Union and distributes extract credit bureau files to Credit Card, Countrywide, Home Equity and other LOBs based on the agreed upon SLA.
- Participated very actively in finding the right architecture to meet the project timeline and work with the business and technical teams to overcome design challenges
- Worked with Business partner, CARD development teams and off-shore resources to find alternative and viable solutions to critical CARD requirements.

- PMO manager for three teams (Front-end, Mid-Tier & Back-end). The project was to build a secure WEB site for our institutional investors to allow them to get more detailed information about the different products Vanguard offers including financial charts and research information. Also to allow them to access their portfolios to help them through the decision making process. It also allows the user to compare their portfolio performance to major indexes.
- Also, this software served as a marketing tool. To be able to do that, the project integrated 3rd party vendor application into the project to get information about competition regarding return, performance and expense comparison.
- The project included WEB (JAVA), mid-tier object, data layers and back-end (host layer) using Enterprise solution.
- Mirroring mission critical applications to the 2nd data center
PMO manager for four teams across different geographical areas. This project was to mirror institutional mission critical applications to Vanguard 2nd data center for disaster recovery. This project required all applications to be updated in both the main data center and the second data center simultaneously.
The main objective of the project is in the case of a disaster the business will be up and running under two hours. The project required working with several groups and dealing with very challenging infrastructure technical issues.

Major Accomplishments:
- Decision Making System (DMS). I was the technical lead on writing this JAVA/Webobjects Intranet application. This application assists counselors and Phone Center associates to use several financial calculators and to interact with other systems to gather/post data about the participant who is asking for financial advice. It also helps in keeping track of the advice and information that have been given out to participants.
- Participated in programming Meetings and One on One Counseling (MOC). This is an Internet application developed in JAVA and WebObjects. Our counselor and participants use it. The counselors using it to announce events and participant uses it to make, change and cancel reservations for these events.
- Project leader for TAX Deferred Annuity (TDA). It is software used by TIAA-CREF institutional clients to calculate the maximum allowed amount for each of their employees to defer. It uses sophisticated actuarial calculations, institutional defined benefit and defined contributions plans configuration to calculate the employees’ benefits.
- Project leader for Retirement Planning: this software used by our participant to calculate their monthly expected retirement income based on assumptions the user makes about their goals, contributions, social security income...etc. Actuarial calculations are used to calculate the future and present dollars, set backs.... etc.
This project also served as a marketing tool for our clients and target customers together more information about our products and the tax advantages they may gain by investing with TIAA-CREF.
