Accomplishments: Reengineered the Mutual Fund Variable Price Financial History data repository, converting VSAM files into DB2 Database. These efforts included writing programs in Assembler to access compressed legacy data, COBOL II to analyze and than convert the VSAM to sequential files, and DB2 utilities to load the data to DB2. The result was a 500 Million row database available 24x7 for both Batch processes and On-line inquiries. Developed process and Logical data models, designed database and tables. I wrote several COBOL CICS programs that use voice commands to allow users to access their data over the phone. Optimized database for size and for handling mass row update and customer inquiries simultaneously. Efforts include, column distribution using statistical usage analysis, partitioning of large tables, and the use of index type 2 definition combined with the UR clause. Implemented backup and recovery procedures that allow partial table recoverability of several generations back. Languages: COBOL II, CICS, Assembler
