  • Worked as a Senior BizTalk consultant on a 5 month assignment converting and upgrading EDS's insurance claims system to use the latest version of the .Net framework 3.5 and BizTalk 2009 beta.
  • The decision was also made to upgrade SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2008. The conversion involved testing all existing SQL Server SSIS packages which were originally created in SQL Server 2005 to make sure they still work in SQL Server 2008. Also unit tested all BizTalk pipeline components originally created using BizTalk 2006 R2 to make sure everything still compiled in Visual Studio 2008 and could properly parse documents using BizTalk 2009's send ports. The Hipaa 3.0 accelerator was no longer used as part of the medical claims system, but instead everything was converted to using the base EDI adapter. Also planned and designed a BizTalk MessageBox driven system based on an ESB design framework which replaced the current legacy .Net 1.1 application for servicing the Commercial General Liability policies and Umbrella Liability policies of EDS's Property and Casualty Insurance business clients which includes Progressive Insurance, Travelers, and State Farm. Also was responsible for sending HL7 diagnostic medical claims in HL7 format to third party medical clearing houses using the HL7 adapter. In addition, designed a system for acceptance of 834 and 837 EDI claims from State Farm which included mapping the transactions and storing the data. . Major technologies being used are .NET C, Visual Studio 2008, BizTalk Server 2009 R2, SQL Server 2008, and Team Foundation Server 2008.

Worked as a Senior Biztalk Architect on a large project called FreshStart for a mid-size mortgage company in the heart of downtown Santa Fe, NM. My responsibilities as architect on team of eight developers was to both design and implement an Enterprise Service Bus system using the BizTalk ESB toolkit for Thornburg Mortgage's loan servicing system which was a complete rewrite of their existing .NET 1.1 system. BizTalk 2006 R2 served as the core of the ESB and all endpoint systems which interacted with the BizTalk core components did so through WCF web services on a .NET 3.5 platform. The database used was Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and all updates were done through BizTalk orchestrations calling WCF web services which updated the database through LINQ. The project made heavy use of direct bound ports to the BizTalk Message Box for sending and retrieving documents and outbound and inbound transactions were matched through correlation sets. The entire system was driven by orchestrations which called business rules stored in the Microsoft BizTalk Business Rules Engine. The BizTalk SSO server was used for both storing shared BizTalk configuration settings and as a means for authenticating users on some of the disparate endpoint systems which the ESB 1.0 interacted with. Technologies used included the ESB 1.0 Toolkit, BizTalk Business Rules Engine, BizTalk Server 2009, SQL Server 2008, BAM, and System Center Operations Manager SCOM, and VSS 6.0.

Spent four months aiding in the development and maintenance of a large scale inventory management application written called MachSix. The solution was written entirely in BizTalk 2006 Server and

  • Oracle 8 and is used by Invistics's customers to improve warehouse inventory management by increasing cycle times and improving throughput and customer service. The solution was composed of multiple modules for sales orders, goods movement, and the batching of inventory. The architecture used BizTalk 2006 R2 to make requests to SAP RFC's . The returned data from the SAP RFC's was mapped and stored in an Oracle database. The 846 Inventory Advice Transaction Set and 852 Transaction Sets were primarily used. Long running BizTalk orchestrations were used to constantly poll for data and custom business logic written for Oracle was also called from BizTalk. Tasked with creating a custom BizTalk orchestration for CP Kelco, one of the largest inventory control and manufacturing companies in the country, to allow for further functionality outside of the scope of the existing MachSix product. All maps and code added to expression shapes within the BizTalk environment were written either using custom XSLT or C . Added new functionality to a website which kept track of all job runs and inventory statistics. The website was written in ASP.Net 3.0 using Javascript. BAM was also used as a measuring stick of throughput. Technologies used included BizTalk Server 2009, SQL Server 2008, Visual Studio 2008, ESB Toolkit 1.0, BizTalk Business Rules Engine, Team Foundation Server 2008, and ASP.NET.

Spent two months working on a project to accept and parse HL7 laboratory files through BizTalk's HL7 adapter. All files were sent using TCP IP through M LLP on port 11000. All of the work was done for the clinical departments within the University of Miami's Miller School of Medicine. The files being sent were in HL7 EDI format and I was tasked to break out and store all demographic information from the PID segment and diagnostic information from the DG1 segment into SQL Server 2005. Some of the tasks I performed included installing and customizing BizTalk 2006 R2, installing the HL7 adapter, creating all maps necessary to parse out the HL7 information and all maps to store the information into SQL Server by calling SQL Server 2008 stored procedures. Technologies used included BizTalk Server 2006 R2, SQL Server 2008, Visual Studio 2008, VSS 5.0, and ASP.NET.

  • Worked as a Senior BizTalk Consultant on a project to convert business transactions from GenTrans to Microsoft BizTalk 2006 for PQ Corporation, a large chemical manufacturing company in Lenexa, Kansas. The purpose of the project was to phase out GenTrans as a piece of middleware that was being used to send EDI transactions between PQ Corporation and its trading partners.
  • I helped to implement a BizTalk business process in which both the FTP adapter and SMTP adapter were used to download purchase orders from various trading partners in XML format. These files were brought into BizTalk 2006 through a receive port using the Base EDI adapter and converted into X12 EDI format. These EDI files were then uploaded into SAP and a corresponding IDOC file containing the invoice data was produced which was then sent to BizTalk Server through the SAP adapter. The schema file which was produced from the IDOC was then mapped into X12 EDI format and was sent as an invoice back out to the trading partners through either the SMTP adapter or the FTP adapter. A 997 functional acknowledgement was also sent out to the trading partner upon receipt of the purchase order and conversely, PQ Corporation accepted the incoming 997 functional acknowledgement from the various trading partners. One of the trading partners needed customized naming of the file which was sent back to them through SMTP so an orchestration which was built to allow for this customized naming within a message shape.
  • I was the sole developer responsible for building the entire BizTalk architecture for the aforementioned end to end process. I installed and configured the Base EDI adapter and also configured the receive send and receive ports for the FTP adapter, SMTP adapter, and SAP adapter. I was also responsible for developing all of the BizTalk maps and custom business logic. Technologies used included BizTalk Server 2006 R2, SQL Server 2005, Visual Studio 2005, Team Foundation Server 2005, ESB Toolkit 1.0, SAP 6.1, and ASP.NET.

  • Worked as a Senior BizTalk Consultant on a pilot project for EDS. The purpose of the project was to build a web portal in conjunction with it's business partners to allow doctors and Confidential ts to view Medicaid electronic health records. My role on the project was to build a process through which records which were originally stored in mainframe copybooks - could be imported from an Oracle database owned by the American Health Care Association AHCA and imported into a SQL Server 2005 database. I accomplished this by creating SQL Server Integration Service packages so data could be assimilated and put in a format which could be easily mapped through BizTalk Server.
  • The SSIS packages would create delimited flat files which would then be brought into BizTalk and mapped into X12 837 claims files. HCFA, Dental, Institutional, and Pharmacy claims were all mapped through this same process. The files were then sent to CentriHealth as positional flat files using a send port that had a custom send pipeline using a flat file assembler as its transport.
  • The X12 271 format was used to send a recipient file to CentriHealth. This also was sent as a positional flat file. All of the above files were later sent as EDI files instead of flat file positional files. The HIPAA accelerator was used to accomplish this.

Technologies used included BizTalk Server 2006 R2, SQL Server 2005, Visual Studio 2005, Team Foundation Server 2005, and BAM.

  • Worked for one of the largest insurance providers in the world. I was part of the
  • Information Technology Services group within AllState and I was involved in 4 large projects within the organization. I was a senior developer on the Hipaa 2005 compliance project which involved converting EDI feeds through BizTalk using the Microsoft Hipaa Accelerator and HL7 Clinical Accelerator. I also did a complete mapping of the various schemas through the BizTalk Mapper and developed several .NET components written in C for routing EDI documents properly through BizTalk. I implemented the processing of 837 transactions for AllState to properly and securely handle mini-med claims through electronic transmissions from GTESS, a clearinghouse for medical claims. These claims were routed to BizTalk and mapped to internal XML files and then converted to fixed-width files for purposes of feeding the AS400 Genelco and AWD systems. This system used BizTalk 2006 with C Pipeline components and interacted with a SQL Server 2005 database. I also worked on the development and infrastructure for the 835 Remittance Advice Eligibility, and 834 Enrollment transactions. The 270 transaction used a custom workflow orchestration and all transactions were monitered and reported on using BAM. In addition, the HL7 accelerator was used to process the Pharmaceutical claims and maintain a database of demographic information off the DMG segment in each file.
  • I also worked on the Policy Allotment project which used a B2B supply chain model for risk management. AllState allows other secondary insurance partners to purchase some of its policies or to underwrite some of the risk on a policy. I was part of a team of six people who used the RosettaNet BizTalk accelerator and SQL Server 2005 to develop an end-to-end solution in which partners were able to safely transmit encrypted FTP feeds containing invoices and purchase orders for claims in XML format. Some of our partners included Progressive Insurance, State Farm Insurance, and MetLife. SQL Server 2005 was used as the back-end database. The business engine which we called from BizTalk was written in VB.Net.

I also worked on an internal website to be used by AllState agents for the purposes of recruiting both independent agents and insurance companies to sell AllState insurance. This relationship management website monitors agent activity and allows them to keep track of contacts, memos, and meetings and organizes tasks for them. It is written using C and VB.Net, DHTML, and Javascript.

Technologies used included BizTalk Server 2004, SQL Server 2003, Visual Studio 2003, Team Foundation Server, and BAM.
