Upon joining I organized a lose group of software developers into the current software architecture group, developed processes for change control, issue resolution, and recovered several features that were in trouble. Some of my key accomplishments in this position include:
  • Implemented the sound over MOST Linux driver I2S and application layer code to use same driver to stream audio sounds over a MOST network. This feature was in trouble of missing model year 2013 delivery. I completed the crucial driver work just under three months to begin turning around a troubled program.
  • I work with a distributed group of developers around the world to drive customer requirements into a finished product. The instrument cluster consists of software/hardware that communicates on a CAN, LIN, and MOST bus. The Cadillac CUE cluster is the largest cluster program in the world.
  • My technical skills that are being utilized are C/C, GDB to analyze crash dumps, U-Boot, iMX5/ARM, VectorCANOE Optolyzer suite CAN/LIN and MOST simulations respectively.

  • Lead Wireless WiFi Architect for the Ford Sync Program was added to my list of roles responsibilities. Also maintaining Lead role as Infrastructure Architect for SYNC program. Added role entails responsibility for the in-vehicle Ford SYNC module's WiFi capabilities. Responsible for establishing WiFi metrics, performance specifications, and WiFi roaming capabilities.   • Designed provisioning software downloads system such that vehicles with SYNC modules could be programmed over WiFi on the assembly line. System is being implemented globally. Software is called AMP Automated Module Provisioning .
  • Authored design specifications both functional and non-functional requirements for combined AMP software and WiFi infrastructure. On this project I was the lead engineer responsible for FMEA Failure Mode Effects Analysis and threat modeling of this system.
  • As a lead architect on SYNC, helped develop the software system specifications and use cases for back-end integration to Ford's automobile build planning system.
  • Designed test cases and test methodology for WiFi roaming and WiFi through-put acceptance criteria used to drive vendor designs chipset acceptance/modifications and kernel level drivers.

  • Lead Infrastructure Architect for the Ford Sync program. Sync is Ford's in-vehicle technology package providing customers hands-free cell phone operation, music synchronization with most Bluetooth devices, and other various Ford services such as vehicle diagnostics, 911 assist, and turn by turn directions to name a few. Responsible for the enterprise design, integration, and security of the hosting infrastructure to support the Sync web site, integration with other backend Ford applications as well as integrations with Ford partners. My responsibilities and some achievements:
  • Designed a messaging solution for SYNC GEN2 using open source software as a POC Proof Of Concept supporting three million connected vehicles allowing push messaging. POC used to cost compare against products in the commercial telecom space. POC beat out all competing products to date and is currently on short list.
  • Designed hosted environment consisting of VMWare ESX Server running Windows 2003, IIS v6. Design goals included HA High Availability and DR Disaster Recovery scenarios at web/application tier and database tier.
  • Designed/Resolved Akami solution to off-load high traffic aspects using Akami technology.
  • Improved corporate standard usage of Cisco's CSM to detect application faults for better fail over scenarios.
  • Worked to deliver a proof of concept using Microsoft Exchange 2007 Unified Messaging to, in part, highlight SYNC 's voice interoperability capabilities.
  • Performance analysis. Used tools such as Mercury Load Runner, SoapUI, and custom .NET/C coding to stub out performance bottlenecks to isolate problem areas.
  • Developed a Single Sign On solution incorporated by the SYNC web site and Ford external partners at a time when Ford had no corporate standard for SSO Single Sign On . I'm also part of discussions to evaluate SSO solutions using OpenID, WS Federation, and SAML technologies.   • EDI-PRO was later consumed as a module within ERP-PRO.

C/C Software Development

  • Design/Developed FileStor application. FileStor became a commercial product under another company's label. This software traced various automobile information for companies responsible for transferring vehicles from assembly line to dealer parking lots. Software interface with scanners and 3rd party scanning software such as Canofile.
  • The 2nd iteration of the software included the development of a TWAIN library I was responsible for. I also incorporated a 3rd party library from LeadTools for greater image format support and manipulations.
  • C/C Software Development
  • Design/Developed Northcomm Site Management System application. This began as a custom software engagement for a software system that handled Inventory control, electronic calibration for deployed electronics in the satellite communications industry, and also prepared field work orders.
  • A 2nd version of the software included a document management module that was later added to ERP-PRO to give it similar capabilities that included drag-n-drop documents and linking documents with on-screen metadata. Documents could be of any formation such as MS-Word, MS-Excel, JPEG, TIFF, etc

  • Developed an RS232 interface application in C/C under SCO Unix and later ported to Linux for reading data off the SMDR port of a Siemens ROLM 9200 phone switch. Data was collected and analyzed to look for call fraud and to perform CDR Call Detail Reports to managers.
  • Migrated the 400 node wide-area network enterprise to a Windows NT 4.0/Netware 5.0 platform utilizing NT-Domains with roaming profiles and single sign-ons.
