  • Learned Microsoft DPM well enough to support it and translate the values from one to another. Also discovered that though the times were set in Greenwich Mean Time, the scheduling was done as if Eastern and Central US time zones. Corrected these.
  • Prepared detailed reports based on DPM to ease the transition to NetWorker.

  • Audited 20,284 client definitions across 10 Networker servers and corrected issues over a 3 month period in 2009. Eliminated duplication of 47 clients backing up the same data to two different master servers, removed 141 redundant jobs, removed 317 unnecessary client definitions, restarted backups on 14 clients that had been mistakenly stopped, and changed 698 backups from nonproduction to production classification to match the customer requirements to data retention.
  • Executed a detailed audit of over 100,000 tapes in two Oracle tape libraries and the 10 Networker master servers in 2008. This audit stopped the rampant overwriting of data that was ongoing in two data centers and stopped the further destruction of essential data. Captured the statistics on the destroyed data to reports for use in future investigations and put in safeguards to protect the data from loss. Coupled the audit wif an inventory by the Media Management Team to destroy old media no longer needed, remove from inventory the thousands of missing tapes, and tighten up the controls on physical media.
