PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Confidential, Brigham City, UT

Material Specialist / Analyst, Nozzle Structural Analysis

Responsibilities:

  • Provided technical expertise for composite, elastomeric and polymeric materials to Confidential and reusable solid rocket motor (RSRM) nozzle work center; recruited for this position based on specific prior expertise.
  • Increased RSRM nozzle reliability and safety by creating and revising material models that accurately described the physics and chemical behavior of materials used in the RSRM nozzle.
  • Created constitutive model for thermally decomposing ablative material that accurately described stress - strain behavior while retaining linear elastic assumptions.
  • Characterized and validated material models for composites, adhesives and elastomers by designing and managing multiple research efforts.
  • Prepared and presented test results and issue resolutions to senior management and external customers.

Confidential

Responsibilities:

  • Saved $300K by enabling retention of flight hardware by creating multiple test protocols for validating nozzle structural analysis.
  • Contributed to iterative product development model, promoting high degree of transparency as required by Confidential chief engineers and other experts.
  • Led and participated in Tiger Teams to expose and resolve issues related to safety, nozzle integrity and hardware failure in motor.
  • Consulted throughout manufacturing and development processes with Confidential and ATK structural analysts, plus upper-division internal management and divisions across.

R&D Engineer

Confidential

Responsibilities:

  • Supported manufacturing work centers in the areas of adhesive, paints, sealants, coatings, and adhesion and determined causes of observed adhesion-related phenomena through chemical and mechanical testing.
  • Saved multiple $100K’s by determining cause of cold temperature failure on new Confidential adhesive, resulting in increased performance and astronaut safety.
  • Developed technical approaches to resolving material and process issues, reporting issue resolution to management and customers.
  • As primary investigator, managed budgets up to $100K, plus project scheduling, team selection and resources; sourced external company to characterize materials and wrote proposals for research and development, reporting weekly on projects.
