Project Lead
Technologies SOA 11g, BPEL, OSB, ADF, Webcenter
Project Profile:
- CONFIDENTIAL originally engaged with a third party to deliver a CRM solution to meet the needs of the Laura Ashley contact centre.
- CONFIDENTIAL had no single view of their customer. To deal with customer enquiries, a contact centre agent could have to make enquiries in up to eleven different systems. This presented not only problems of extended call duration and customer dissatisfaction, but also training issues in that contact centre agents would have to be trained to use many different systems. During the CRM engagement, it became apparent that for there were significant integration challenges that needed to be addressed in order for the CRM solution to be effective. One of the central components in this tangle is Axcess, a home grown order management system for MTM / MTO that was written in a mixture of COBOL and Powerhouse and hosted on an HP3000 midrange server. The HP3000 range of servers will reach end of life at the end of 2010. This means that Hewlett Packard no longer provide support for these machines. Whilst this does not mean that the server will actually stop working, it does mean that spares are not available from Hewlett Packard which is a risk to the Laura Ashley business. This however has left the contact centre lacking a consolidated customer service facility. To this end Project 42 was launched.Project 42 is implemented with SOA and ADF, Webcenter solution with enhancements to the existing functionality. Developed the interfaces using BPEL, OSB along with BR and Human Task.
- As a Project Lead I was actively involved in the below phases of Project:
- Requirements gathering and analyze in SOA and Webcenter perspective.
- Design common portal gateway for CSA agents who are employees of LA.
- Using SOA services inside Webcenter to interact with different systems involved.
- Delivery of the project in release wise as Project42 has 5 phases of development.
- Organizing System testing and User acceptance testing.

Project Profile:
- CONFIDENTIAL operates in a highly regulated industry, and many employees must obtain certain licenses and registrations with regulatory bodies in order to perform particular functions. As such, it is critical that any employee in a position requiring an SRO registration has passed the necessary examination s and has the appropriate licenses. However, the changing nature of the business and the lack of a formalized process to track such required registrations and licenses can expose the organization to fines and extraordinary fees from the NASD. The potential risks are:
- Business Contacts are not aware when a new employee starts employment with Merrill Lynch and therefore it is difficult to track when outstanding exams should be taken.
- Supervisors and Business Contacts may not be aware of the gap between the registrations an employee has and the registrations the employee needs in order to properly perform their job.
- Employees are not notified and reminded on a timely basis when their exam window is about to expire.
- Supervisors and Business Contacts may not be aware of an employee's continuing education window that is about to expire.
- Business Contacts and OGC are not made aware when either an exam window or continuing education window has expired, requiring them to remove the employee from duties requiring that particular license.
- The firm, therefore, has created a set of business processes to manage and track employee registration and continuing education requirements. This document describes the technology solution which will support the process that will allow supervisors and business contacts to have access to registration information in order to mitigate the above risks.
