Project Engineer
Responsibilities:- Investigate and evaluate new or improved technology/methods to improve distribution processes and facilities at Confidential ’s distribution centers in Wisconsin, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah, and California.
- Develop business requirements as part of the request for proposal (RFP) process.
- Evaluate potential suppliers and designs.
- Write authorizations for expenditure, detailing business benefit, cost, and project timeframe
- Layer Picker. Project employed five robots working together in an automation cell to automatically build mixed sku pallets to fulfill customer orders. System received full and partial pallet quantities from an ASRS and built rainbow pallets before returning the customer pallet to the ASRS. Project delivered an ROI of 35% by reducing FTE by 16.
- Inline Labelers. Project successfully delivered an ROI of over 100% by adding print engines and labelers to two outbound pallet conveyors to allow for automatic labeling of customer - order pallets, replacing four FTE.
- Space Optimization Projects. Several projects were completed at DCs in Wisconsin, Missouri, Utah, and Pennsylvania. Projects involved analyzing storage requirements and optimizing the space available to the DCs in in order to reduce outside storage costs. These were all high ROI projects that reduced the need for Confidential to use outside storage.
- STV Loop Extension. To facilitate a plant expansion, the rails (loop) that the STVs travel on needed to be extended by 80’. This extension needed to occur with minimal disruption to DC processes as the DCs are all 24/7 operations. The project was completed in phases with the final step requiring a 12 hour outage for the DC to make final connections and reteach all of the STVs their new path and drop off points.
- Stretch Wrap Detection System. Added photo eyes upstream from the conveyor to Stock Transfer Vehicle (STV) transfer point to detect trailing or loose stretch wrap. Without detection, the stretch wrap would error the STVs out and shut down the ASRS. Relatively small project, large savings in downtime.
