Infrastructure/Project Manager

Responsibilities:
  • Gathered infrastructure requirements and procured hardware for all projects over 18 months on GBOS (Global Back Office Systems) roadmap. Functioned as point person for infrastructure needs for Global Back Office systems division. Hardware worked with: HANA, Linux(SUSE and RHEL) systems, Windows and IBM Mainframe.
  • Managed and presented budgeting for infrastructure for back-end systems, including SAP for last five years.
  • Worked with ISD management on defining infrastructure support structure to support the Back office organization.

  • Confidential worked with SAP for over 18 months to implement Data Services and made no headway till I was given the project. It took substantial effort to get the different data teams together to decide on the success criteria for the POC. DB2, Cassandra, ECC (SAP) and Hadoop were the databases in the scope of the POC. After getting the infrastructure in place for the POC, it took us 2 months to successfully complete the proof of concept. After the POC, I got the infrastructure for the actual project in place, and handed over the project to a project manager from the Data Integration group. It is currently being implemented.
  • Confidential started to implement SAP in 2008 and at that time AIX servers were used as the application servers. By 2014, AIX hardware was nearing end of life and the best option from a support standpoint was ZLinux, which is basically SLES Linux on the Mainframe. The database DB2 was already on the mainframe.
  • The project effort involved working with management to allocate the needed funds, work with IBM to procure the initial IFLs and then work with the Confidential Basis consultants and Confidential SAP Basis team to come up with a plan to migrate the entire suite of SAP applications from AIX to ZLinux. The production cutoff was done Memorial weekend May 2015.
  • I was responsible for getting all Back office applications to use the new SHA256 encryption by December 31 st 2016. This involved working with subject matter experts from all the Back Office teams and come up with a plan to get all the applications converted. The Single Sign ON (SSO) for SAP applications that fell under the SAP Basis team was also impacted and required extensive effort. A new authentication server had to be built and every SIDs authentication had to be scheduled to use the new authentication server.
  • Applications talk to each other using interfaces. The existing 190 interfaces were point to point and every new Interfaces was an effort in itself. Also supporting all these interfaces were unsustainable. A new platform was created called Stronghold that could support interfaces. All the interfaces had to be rewritten and migrated over to Stronghold. This was done using Agile Methodology with 2 week sprint cycles.

  • Evaluated RFID readers from various vendors.
  • Confidential worked with multiple RFID vendors namely, Alien, Impinj and Motorola. Evaluating readers from vendors involved pushing pallets of items through doors in the lab, collecting and analyzing the reads that came across. Antenna placement, tag placement were key considerations. Multiple runs had to be done so that extensive data could be collected and analyzed.
  • Developed Perl scripts to monitor health of readers and create Remedy tickets when readers needed maintenance.
  • Developed C/UNIX code to inte rface with the RFID readers .
  • All applications that were written had to use the RFID interface to collect the reads from the RFID readers. This was written in plain 'C' and constantly had to be tweaked for optimization.
  • Supported the Global Time and Attendance System that is used in all Confidential Stores and SAMs clubs and was the Subject Matter Expert of the time clocks used.
  • Executed application development of timeclock code for company in record time to make company Time and Attendance application compliant with California labor laws. Received special recognition at yearly Store Holiday meeting in Kansas City in 2003. All development work for the Global Time and Attendance application was in 'C'/Unix/ESQL and 4GL.

  • Confidential already had a Production Planning application that was used on the production floor in factories. This was developed in RPG/CL on AS400 mini computers. Confidential worked toward developing a translator to port the RPG/CL code to C/Unix/Informix. My role was to develop 'C' code for some of the CL commands. OPENQUERYF was one such command.

Responsibilities:
  • Developed the Signature verification interface where a signature could be captured from an assigned area on a card and then tied to a customers account. Whenever a customer's signature had to be verified, the bank employee could display the saved signature, magnify it and compare it with the customer's signature. This was developed in windows 3.1 using the Windows SDK (software Development Kit)
  • Developed handy C/Unix Utilities for the bank. One of the utilities was to display a printed report on the screen. Printed reports displayed much more information than queries, basically up to 132 columns. This utility and had features to pan left and right, and scroll up and down. It saved the requester from printing reports and running to the printer to collect them.

Responsibilities:
  • Confidential was one of the first consultants in Mumbai and were known for their Hotel Management System and the Hospital Management System. I was part of the Hospital Management team and played a major development role. All code was in plain 'C' and data was stored in ISAM format.
  • One of the new modules was the Nurses station and my role was to work with hospital nurses to gather requirements and develop the code for this system.
  • The Hospital Management system had multiple modules - Reservation, Registration, Billing, Financial Management, Lab and Medical. I implemented these modules in 3 hospitals.
  • Implementation involved understanding the requirements, customization of the code, training the hospital staff and cutting over.
  • The last 3 months were spent, being part of a SWAT team that helped other implementers with their immediate issues.
