Front-End/Back-End/Middleware Developer Architect

Responsibilities:

  • Hands On Manager/Developer responsible for a development team of 3-5 developers and 1-3 QA professionals.
  • Responsible for maintenance of large multi-tier Ruby-based Big Data (HADOOP) Analytics Portal that was designed to collect data for US Sprint from Android handsets.
  • Responsible for development of a unique method for performing Hyper-Fast Geolocation of billions of GPS coordinates in realtime in support of a Heat Maps Visualization for the Analytics Portal.
  • Realtime Analytics for HADOOP and other No-SQL Databases.
  • Android Development using Eclipse and Adobe AIR for Android 2.2 and Android 2.3 and later for Phones and Tablets.
  • Portal Development Stack
  • Ruby on Rails 1.8.7/3.x
  • JavaScript
  • HTML/HTML5/CSS
  • Remote Debugging with Ruby Mine under Ubuntu 11.10 via Virtual Box.
  • Responsible for using Python-based APIs for data translation functions.
  • Responsible for researching MongoDB for BigData Applications including a deep understanding of the internals.
  • Maintained various Smalltalk Libraries. Built new Smalltalk libraries; interfaced Smalltalk to TCP/IP as REST Web Services.
  • Responsible for Computer Automation as a Senior Software Engineer.
  • Extensive experience with logstash/splunk and tools like these and others.
  • Responsible for performing Automation using Puppet and Chef.
  • Responsible for development using Open Source tools, WSDL and XSD.
  • Realtime Analytics for HADOOP - inspired by Google, architected to process the data the moment the data arrives rather than when the user requests the report; heavy use of memcache to speed the delivery of the data. MVC was used for the web-facing portion of the Application or System. The Realtime Analytics System was architected to use distributed processing to spread the analysis of the incoming data as the data arrives just before the data was stored in HADOOP for later retrieval. The Analytics Portal was designed to retrieve preprocessed information in the form of Analytics Data which is maintained by the system in the form of Aggregations of Data Records since Analytics is concerned with displaying Aggregations of Data for End Users who wish to view the data in a Top-Down Vertical or Horizontal Manner depending on the specific needs of the End User Community.
  • Hyper-Fast Geolocation Algorithm - Haversines is the default Geolocation Algorithm one might use to determine when a GPS Coordinate falls within a known circular area one might wish to overlay onto a Map via Google Maps. The problem when using Haversines or any circular function of this kind is that even modern computers have never been optimized to handle trigonometry functions such as those one must use when working with circular functions that require the use of trigonometry functions. The solution was to develop a non-circular approximation function capable of handling billions or trillions of GPS Coordinates in a faster manner than would be possible when using the Haversines algorithm; this solution does not use any trig functions at-all.
