Project 6: Spending Account Management

The primary goal of SAM project is to achieve a high rate of auto-adjudication of claims. This requires automation of business processes and decisions that are currently being done with legacy computer systems initiated manually by human operators. To achieve this SAM interacts with a third party tool called Blaze Advisor to make few critical decisions. Remaining regular validations will be handled by SAM itself. For this purpose SAM is designed into three modules to distribute the work and make the functionality flexible. The three modules are, Import Engine which fetches the data file from the client, preprocesses it, extracts only the required data and converts it into XML file, Process Control Engine which is used to separate each claim record from the XML file and do necessary validations required for each claim transaction depending upon the type of conversion required, Export Engine which is used to pick the validated data and sent back to client with all the valid records. Of the three Process Control Engine plays critical role by interacting with the PPlus database to get the validations and sometimes contacts Blaze advisor in case it require more information.

Flexible Spending Account (FSA) helps you to reduce the cost of health care and stretch the income dollars. Under the FSA scheme, you need to contribute certain amount from your paycheck into the FSA account. The amount in the FSA account is used for out-of-pocket medical and dental expenses of self or dependent. Amount present in FSA account is exempted from federal, state, and payroll taxes. In short, an employee enrolled in an FSA scheme gets tax exemption based on the deposited amount in FSA.
