Software Engineering/ QA Lead
Confidential, El Segundo, CA
Responsibilities:- As part of the Set Top Box Engineering Group, I led projects that helped improve the software development and testing processes which led to quicker testing cycles and the use of more automation.
- I was part of the team designing the new CI/CD process. I also put together and led a team of analysts preparing for the Confidential NOW client-server platform (now in use) by designing the test automation framework to be used by both the Set Top Box and mobile app testing teams. The final product included a test automation suite, a test management system, hooks into the Jenkins scheduler, naming conventions, library structure for test case storage, and regular meetings with team leads using the framework to gain feedback and make improvements on the system. To complete this framework design I brought in vendors for various applications (eventually settling on CA DevTest for test automation and QMetry for test management), and created business reports and Power Point decks explaining to upper management how this new framework would function and how it would be an improvement on their BAU process.
- I helped lead the transition amongst the engineering group from Waterfall to Agile. I provided training, led discussion groups, and met with existing leadership of the various departments to help with the change in methodology.
Test Architect
Confidential, El Segundo, CA
Responsibilities:- As part of the Quality Assurance Team in IT, I worked with business and IT leads to develop software test strategies, business requirement documents, and high-level use cases for all Confidential applications. I designed strategies to improve our team’s performance and submitted project resource budgets for department approval.
- Testing needs were developed during requirements-gathering phase of a project by meeting with system analysts for all applications impacted. I then reviewed these testing needs with the QA leads of each impacted application to make sure they understood what their teams were expected to validate.
- I put together and managed a team of contract employees, and incorporated pieces of Six Sigma and 5S to improve our team’s output. I designed several API testing procedures to validate new SOAP-based APIs under development, and led training sessions to give other analysts the needed background on how these services worked.
- I also met regularly with our VP providing updates on how our group was handling the merger of Confidential and Confidential &T and providing process improvement suggestions on how to strengthen QA.
Web Application Lead
Confidential, El Segundo, CA
Responsibilities:- I grew into a leadership role of a group of front-end web developers; creating a number of applications used by Confidential ’s worldwide customer service reps. I developed a variety of front end user applications using JavaScript, CSS, HTML, XML and JSON.
- I helped put together a new web team (developers / a designer / a BA) and led them towards several improvements of the company product including the use of more detailed web analytics, usage statistics, and organized A/B testing routines to prove effectiveness of certain changes made to the applications. To complete this change I wrote up a project proposal for upper management providing specifics on the technologies I wanted to update, the skills the team would need, costs of the software, a training plan, general timeframe for turnaround, and other details. Much of the plan was accepted and executed as planned, providing a much improved development environment and more interactive tools for users.
- I created and managed a Portfolio Management System used to track a series of KPIs that helped better inform our priorities, ROI, and the SLAs for our team. Information from this report was shared with our department VP on a regular basis to help guide the department objectives for our team.
