PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
Test Engineer
Confidential, Sioux Falls, SD
Responsibilities:
- Perform prototype validation and verification testing on equipment for broadcast video distribution. Prototype hardware and especially software builds were provided for feedback to the product development engineers.
- My focus was on the equipment performance and usability in user and signal interfaces. Testing was performed against the product specifications (gray box testing), before the stable product went to release candidate software testing.
Software Tester and Lab Manager
Confidential
Responsibilities:- Software modules were developed for clients' set top boxes to allow their middleware to connect to Irdeto's proprietary scrambling and customer management system.
- My task was to test the interaction between the set top box and the simulated satellite signals.
- I also maintained the equipment in a small test lab (scramblers, smart card database computers, modulators and transport stream players).
Printed Circuit Board Designer
Confidential
Responsibilities:- Increasingly responsible for maintaining and expanding the PCAD component libraries and design system.
- I also managed and converted drawings and old designs made in PCAD and other CAD software.
- I designed several analog and mixed analog/digital PCB's (1, 2 or 4 layers) with through-hole and SMT components, both for re-flow and wave soldering assembly. Some designs were used in high quantity low cost analog consumer cable receivers, others in low quantities for professional equipment.
Electronic Development Engineer
Confidential
Responsibilities:- My starting position with Irdeto was for development of a next-generation low cost set top box for consumer cable reception of scrambled analog PAL TV signals.
- The circuitry was a mix of proprietary ASICs combined with consumer grade components for restoration of the (digital) audio and (analog) video.
- My main focus was on developing the RF input and demodulation circuitry, high quality audio and video circuits and a simple power supply, for the lowest material cost available.
Electronic Development Engineer
Confidential
Responsibilities:- Grass Valley is the current owner of this broadcast camera design and manufacturing facility.
- At the time of my employment it was BTS (Broadcast Television Systems), a joint venture of Philips and Bosch.
- I worked on development of analog circuitry for the transmission system of a studio camera (LDK9), and later also the voice communication and audio input circuitry and transmission system of the first analog HDTV camera (LDK9000).
