Income Tax Department (ITD) went for comprehensive computerization of its entire system; this system is available across 36 Regional Computer Centres (RCCs) all over India, which are connected to one National Computer Centre (NCC) at Delhi. DIT(S) application system provides functionality for PAN (Permanent Account Number) allotment, return processing, scrutiny assessment, tax accounting, resource and manpower management and many other activities.

For the CASS System the selection of cases for scrutiny is fully automated and integrated in Assessment module. In this case, only the authorized users are able to set the selection criterion. The selection criterion is parameterized and allows creating user-defined expressions and ratios corresponding to the issues. This module basically finds the defaulters of tax payment in the whole country. This exercise was repeated thrice in a year city by city.

The team was involved in Design, Development, Testing, Support and Delivery Management Activities. The challenge was to in corporate the new slabs, categories of taxation along with modified calculations and maintain the ITD Support SLA and yet deliver high quality products in stringent timescales. The focus was also on the automation of testing and test data preparation.
