Responsibilities:

  • Created and modified programs, service programs, modules, RPGLE procedures and SQL stored procedures for several projects at Estes Express. These included:
  • Bill of Lading (BOL) project to allow customer to enter BOLs on the My Estes web site.
  • Shipment Tracking, which allows customer to track freight on the My Estes web site.
  • Pickup Request - the new version of the Pickup Request (scheduling and appointment) function built in to the BOL on the My Estes web site.
  • Modified RPGLE procedures and SQL stored procedures to maintain and improve various business packages in the Estes iSeries:
  • Image Retrieval - Maintenance of image storage and retrieval programs developed in-house that converted spool files to .tiff. These were stored on the IFS and retrieved for display as PDF or emailed as the same.
  • Rate Quote - Generally these were just changes to how rates were calculated.
  • Points Lookup/Inquiry - Programs to identify Estes’ terminals (a.k.a. Points) based on US, Canadian, Mexican or Caribbean zip/postal codes.
  • LTL Rate Request - Maintained backend programs to handle Estes customer’s online Less-than-Truckload rate request on the My Estes web site and the backend programs for the corporate sales department on the company intranet site.
  • Wrote program specifications for various projects in conjunction with the Business Analysts and wrote Support documentation at the end of the stabilization period before they were turned over to Application Support.
  • Application development tools were primarily RDi 8.0, PDM (still with us after all these years), Hawkeye, iNav, QuantumDB (SQL plugin for RDI), Turnover (plugin on RDi and on the iSeries green screen). Citrix is used for working from home and meetings.
  • Other tools and packages: ROBOT, SEQUEL ViewPoint, SOAPUI for web service testing, EXCEL, Lotus Notes and Outlook, Microsoft Word.
  • Analysis of problems.
  • Modified RPGLE procedures and SQL stored procedures Program modification for bug fixes and logic correction.
  • Data changes using SQL and DBU when necessary and approved by at least two directors to ensure data base integrity.
  • Documentation of standard and exceptional procedures to allow “cookbook” problem resolution of re-occurring problems.

  • Created and modified RPGLE procedures and SQL stored procedures for several projects in BOA’s mortgage division.
  • Used Turnover to promote programs, files and etc. from development to testing at level 1 and level 2.
  • Wrote and modified High Level Documentation (HLD) and Low Level Documentation (LLD) during the design phase of the “Datagram” project.

  • Designed and created custom programs to update the JDE database in a manner compatible with the JDE package and created custom reports compatible with the JD Edwards A7.3 database.
  • Various additions to JDE menus allowing users to manage their spool files.
  • Developed a package to download sales data from the Restaurant Division into the JDE database using Sybase server.
  • Designed and created a suite of programs to automate the nightly saves and the monthly full system saves in a coordinated manner across our three LPARs.
  • Wrote power handling programs to manage the UPS and system shutdown for the three LPARs. This included email notification.
  • Upgraded the operating system from i5/OS V5R3 to V5R4.
  • Upgraded the operating system from i5/OS V5R4 to V6R1.
  • Oversaw the i5 hardware upgrade from a Model 510-P10 to a Model 520-P20.
  • Implemented, in conjunction with our IBM business partner, the partitioning of the new i5 into three LPARS.
  • Resolved hardware problems when possible, worked with IBM when not possible. Managed the i5 using the HMC.
  • Installed cumulative and group PTF's on i5. Installed HMC software and micro code upgrades.

iSeries Programmer/Administrator

  • Developed programs in RPGLE for Confidential, our in-house add-ons to the Lawson software package.
  • Wrote ad-hoc SQL to change data to meet Confidential upload requirements and created quick utilities in CL and RPG to facilitate and error check the Confidential upload.
  • Performed the usual system administration functions: PTF's, software installation/ upgrades, keeping track of license keys, Lotus Notes upgrade, operating system upgrade from i5/OS V5R1 to V5R3M5 and etc.
  • Planned and in some cases installed new hardware in the computer room and the i5.
  • Hardware upgrade from a Model 810-P10 to a Model 520-P20.
  • Installed/configured the new Ultrium3 tape drive in the i5 and the new UPS.
  • Designed a database and wrote SQL for a web site called Confidential . This web site was geared to the job search market and was expected to be operational early in 2004, but never made it there due to failure of funding.
  • Worked as a self-employed “Geek on Call” without, of course, using the Trademarked name.
