Lead Architect and Developer
Responsibilities:
- Rescued the failing project of an audit application by salvaging all usable code and UI and placing them into a rebuilt MVC .Net solution organized for team development. This included realigning the project to the original requirements and security model using MSSQL, OLAP Cubes via SSAS, content integration with Pyramid Analytics and proper delegation of project work based on skillsets.
- As lead Epicor developer and subject matter expert role, completed all major customizations including printing checks which required bank pre-authorization, customized forms for financial data entry, and the build out of two major intake interfaces for processing data from the Guidewire middle tier. In addition to the customizations and development I assisted in translating the business and process logic into technical functionality using both my technical knowledge of the project and the information provided by finance. Finally, I lead a significant multi-team effort to correct and replace the vendor installed server architecture and settings for Epicor and created processes for future planned updates and support that would be required due to changes in business needs and the software.
- SSIS and SQL DBA Supervision - Supervised and provided SME support to the internal team of SSIS developers, prioritized required work assigned to team and on occasion developed solutions for urgent projects that required advanced technical skills and .Net abilities that were not present with other team members.
- Standardization, Documentation and Source Control Setup - Worked with the technology director and lead efforts in the capture and documentation of co-owned data processes and improvement of existing documentation for primary processes. Lead initiatives to gather, organize and store all source code into TFS to prevent previously reoccurring loss of source code, and cataloged and reviewed implementations to ensure the proper following of Microsoft development standards and security recommendations.
- Lead technology conversion of the EDW reporting pipeline process from SAS Enterprise to IBM Netezza. Initially performed a language and tech conversion of the process in order to drive down process times and improve downstream availability of the data for the entire company but specifically finance, credit and marketing who’s need was critical. As the conversion of the process was done in stages, and due to my thorough examination of billions of rows of data, it was discovered that business logic and some major development errors were present in the code for I took on the responsibility of cleaning up these issues by working with lead liaison for each of the key departments. In the end using advanced technical knowledge, SQL optimization and process improvement techniques, I was able to bring the entire process down to around 2-3 hours from an initial time of 2 weeks and with accuracy of data and reporting being improved to an above 99% accuracy rate up from under 60%.
- Assisted various teams with optimization strategies for SAS and Netezza code and pass through queries along with proper data management practices and SQL optimization. This included meetings where strategies were presented to advanced business users to aid in writing efficiencies into code.
- Created and executed a detailed migration path for the existing SharePoint 2007 Moss instance to a completely new architecture for SharePoint 2010. This included setup and installation of the SharePoint farm servers, proper backup and configurations and setup of Kerberos authentication.
- Creation of New SharePoint Organization, Branding and Navigation - Working closely with the entire panel of Executives at the company, I devised site organization that properly took advantage of SharePoint’s natural security and navigational capabilities. By developing a custom branded look, feel and control flow based on corporate guidance and ease of use, we were able to implement a 3 click navigation rule and properly configured search within the farm so information was easy to find. This included setting up centralized taxonomy and Content Types to avoid fragmentation of document types and terms.
- Instituted SharePoint Training and Use Policy - Ran training for each business unit based on the group’s previous level of SharePoint exposure and types of solutions they would be using in the future. In addition, it was important to also train a set of department administrators so they could make modifications to their content without burdening the limited IT resources available. With the help of IT and the legal group, I assisted in developing both soft and hard policies that solved potential issues in the areas of site sprawl, legal discovery and content stewardship.
- Developed SharePoint Custom Solutions - In order to tailor SharePoint to the company’s needs better, I developed a variety of solutions ranging from custom web parts that allowed specialized calendaring and Confidential forms within a custom workflow solution to very complex solutions such as an ETL process that used SSIS to pull in XML sales data from external vendors into a MSSQL database and then presented in graphs through a SharePoint dashboard and SSRS.
- As the lead Microsoft .Net Developer resource I developed, tested and deployed several different Asp.net Web Applications, including a web application to handle precise label printing using CSS, a confidential employee Windows application and the company’s externally facing public website. During development and deployment stages, I lead successful initiatives to help organize code assets, improve deployment methods and use recommended practices that lead to lower future maintenance and change costs.
- Build out of SharePoint Absence Request System - Using SharePoint Designer, I developed a custom absence request and approval system for use by the entire company using a SharePoint 2010 site. Included within the site collection was a complicated approval workflow with error handling and notification of tasks. It was linked to Active Directory to determine management hierarchy and took in pre-existing requirements from multiple departments.
- Planned and deployed successfully with Azure and Visual Studio Online a public facing .Net MVC site. Included with this was work with a dedicated designer in altering the site’s Confidential layout and look while still maintaining the functionality of lists, pages, and navigation. Along with a redesign, the site was later updated to .net Core 2.0 with a contact us application containing an Azure SQL backend.
- Internally ran a small team and was the lead AS3 developer for a project that consisted of developers, graphic designers, social media experts, marketing resources, and test teams. Worked through several of wireframes, mocks and several form factors ensuring UI standardization, ease of use, and reiterations between each pre-release version in order to ensure a high quality consistent product. The initial project was eventually scrapped due to more in depth market research and poor projected ROI, however the function and significant portion of its code was salvaged for internal use within the company and revived within Microsoft Azure and Office 365.
System Analyst
Confidential, Los Angeles, CA
Responsibilities:
- As the lead site content manager and developer, I set up a new SharePoint 2007 solution that assisted with audit flow and provided detailed historical reporting to track down issues. During the implementation phase, I was responsible for presenting the solution to executive level management, making changes based on feedback and providing training for users.
- Automation was incorporated within this flow to extract data from a large MSSQL Data Warehouse into the required lists for the Audit using VBA and an intake form due to the restrictive nature of the environment the data resided in.
- A custom interface was built for SharePoint using VBA to export data from the SharePoint lists into a nicely formatted Excel output that was consumed by federal government auditors whom I ensured received the required information for audits.
- While executing the existing Bulk AVM (Automated Valuation Model) process for the Confidential I was tasked with providing continual improvements to a patchwork built process.
- In working efficiently with millions of records, complex models, data sources, data transformations and joins, and reporting I became tasked as the sole technical resource on this process hence dealing with narrow time lines, multiple stake holders and contacts in several major business units, and assessing the business impact to downstream processes (the valuations drove business decisions and financials for a very large spectrum of areas within Confidential ).
- I took this process on as an additional responsibility, and from start to finish during each quarterly run continually improved the process, handled failures in the process, and created business process and technical documentation using Visio.
- I developed advanced validation within MSSQL, SAS, and SSIS for inbound and outbound data and improved data integrity.
- Finally, upon taking over and examining the process in detail, I provided recommendations, made changes and caught errors in the process in such a way that over $1,000,000 was saved over the nine-month period I was in charge.
Lead Software Developer
Confidential, Minneapolis, MN
Responsibilities:
- Led implementation of the company's IT Confidential Audit Controls SharePoint site and was the lead solutions architect involved in creating and maintaining the site collection, assets, and workflows within SharePoint 2007 (Moss).
- By simplifying the process and reducing the examination period of the external auditor, we saved thousands in hourly fees.
- Creating several revisions of Confidential forms, and the use of knowledge of auditing principles and logic allowed information services to successfully deploy, improve and simplify the process.
- In addition to the primary process, I also created remediation workflows to verify that findings were resolved before the next audit cycle.
- Finally, analysis within SharePoint to show Confidential status of the overall IT Confidential Controls process was done using a Dashboard.
- Worked with three business units to upgrade the Life Time Max insurance claims system using PowerShell and MSSQL Stored Procedures by migrating reports into SSRS from MS Access and updating large portions of code within MS Access to handle automation. In addition to the conversion, I also developed a better interface to the GL accounting software for this application.
- This project included cyclic requirement gathering, unit testing, UAT and parallel runs to production (In VMware using Lab Manager) to verify functionality. In addition, full documentation for the new system was created for both the technical and business aspects of the project.
- As team lead of the operations group that was tasked with maintenance and automation of periodic processes, we eliminated manual tasks and automated the operations role and remove the need for afterhours operations work. I collected and materialized requirements and potential needs for the project and conducted procurement research both internally and externally, finally acquiring and training the team on the tools deemed best for our needs. We used PowerShell and .Net to replace many manual repetitive tasks and used a robust scheduling tool to start the jobs and monitor all the processes that we had automated including nightly FTP feeds. Implementation of these changes required extensive knowledge of the various servers, infrastructure and applications; demanded proper testing and change management procedures (including using a virtualized mirror of production within a VMware environment for testing), communications and planning with the respective business units, UAT and full documentation of the previous and new processes after automation.
