Senior SQL Developer in the BI team of the Equity Mining Tool SCRUM project. EMT is a platform for sellers and mangers that leverage the information of the Autonatiion customer database to find new business opportunities. ETL processes extracts in Realtime information from the Datawarehouse and transactional systems to feed a web-based search tool with a list of “opportunities” that includes the customer contact data, actual vehicle information, financial details (lease and finance payments, APR, lender, etc) and offers a precalculated replacement vehicle from the company inventory. The project has 3 years and is in Sprint 30
I was assigned the task to replace the search strategy that involves the queries selected by the user to filter a subset of opportunities based on vehicle year, make, model, trim, color, VIN, customer information, payment amount, payments left, etc. I implemented a denormalized table with a snapshot of all the information required by the search and created the indexes to streamline information retrieval. As a result of this change, the performance test showed that the retrieval performance increased in a 2000%, The average query time came down from 2 seconds to 0.1 second. The performance test showed that the threshold of maximum concurrent users of the EMT tool rose50% with the same hardware platform. Monitoring the production database before and after the change we found that the wait states during the day dropped from 20000 x hour to 1500 x hour as a result of the improved performance of the new search.
The replacement vehicle job that runs every day at night and process more than 7 million records assigning a car from stock to offer the customer as replacement of his current vehicle was taking more than 3 hours to complete and causing the night job to overflow of the assigned window. I reengineered the job converting from a SSIS package to a custom c# multithreaded application that process in parallel the replacement procedure reducing the total time to complete to 1 hour.
To fulfil a requirement to filter customer records based in the distance to a specific store I implemented a zip code table for all the locations of USA and generated geography fields to store the latitude and longitude of both the stores and customers. Using this fields implemented the search by radius calculating the distance difference in the denormalized table.
