• This is by far the largest SSAS data model ever built within NBC Universal till date, in terms of the volume of data. It also has several complex custom measures.
• I had to house 2 monstrous fact tables (data tables) holding around 5 billion records each and 18 -dimension tables (lookup tables), overall model comprising of 10 billion records, compressed in an in-memory OLAP cube.
• I developed this as a tabular SSAS model using Visual Studios 2013 and it helped our business users slice/dice/filter data by replacing more than 200 adhoc SQL queries into a user-friendly self-service power pivot excel reports.
• This model also has 58 complex DAX formulas (measures) facilitating meaningful insight to the financial data.
• The fact tables are partitioned as monthly data tables and was dynamically refreshed each night through a SQL job, using a custom logic built just for this model so that we only refresh the partitions that are impacted (instead of processing the entire cube data each night).
