Work Experience

01/2007 - present Research Assistant, Confidential

Built a crime detection framework by integrating different data sources in SQL-SERVER and applying several data mining techniques to the integrated data set. In particular, I applied decision tree technique to compute the crime patterns of different type of crimes. The crime pattern was built on analyzing all offenders in the state of Alabama in the past 50 years. I then integrated geographical profiling with the crime patterns to rank the suspects of a given crime. To get the better ranking, a genetic algorithm was used to get the optimized weights of each part. The size of the data sources is over 400GB. The framework is used by all police agencies in Alabama.
Built a social network which contains 4 million nodes and 25 million edges for all the people in the state of Alabama. The discovery of connections between people in the social network is based on a heuristic approach. I also proposed and implemented a novel measurement of strong ties in social networks. The challenge of identifying strong ties in a large social network is noisy data. To overcome noisy data problem, I transform the original connection graph to a relation context oriented graph by abstracting relation contexts from each nodes in the graph and creating a new relation context node between the original nodes. Then I compute the local k-connectivity of the newly constructed graph to measure the strength of the connections. The integration part was built in SQL-SERVER database and measurement developing was using JAVA. This social network system has been integrated in previous mentioned crime detection framework and used by all police agencies in Alabama.

02/2005 - 06/2006 Implement Consultant / System Architect,Confidential

Designed, implemented, and customized PTC’s Windchill (JAVA based PDM system) product in 3 projects. These systems are used daily by R&D department in each company. The industries of these companies are automobile and aerospace. Average user of each project is over 500 and the database grows 20GB every month. The main functionalities of these projects are design documents (3D models and 2D drawings) management, change management, workflow management, and design BOM (Bill of materials) management. Windchill is a web based application that uses Apache, Tomcat, Oracle, LDAP Server, JSP, Servlets and template processing.
Designed and implemented the integration of Windchill and SAP R3 in ChaoYang Diesel that is the first integration between PTC PDM system and SAP in China. The main challenge of the integration is that both systems are closed to integration and the structure of design BOM and manufacturing BOM are different. Tibico middleware was used in this integration to conduct a loose integration (web services) between Windchill and SAP. A workflow was built to solve the transformation of design BOM and manufacturing BOM.

Designed report systems of Oracle Application 11i (Oracle Financials and Oracle Order Management) for 3 customers. Average user is over 1000. The developing tools and programming languages used in these systems are Oracle report 6i, SQL, PL-SQL functions and procedures. The modules in Oracle 11i are GL, AR, AP, PA, OM and PO.
Integrated Oracle ERP system with PTC PDM system. The two modules involved in this integration are Oracle PA and Windchill design BOM management. JDBC was used in this integration to update Oracle interface table daily from Windchill system.
Designed enterprise information portal for 2 projects. The software used in these projects is Oracle Application Server 9i. Tools and programming languages used in the projects are Oracle Discovery, Oracle report 6i, Oracle Mod PL-SQL and PL-SQL.
