Technical Environment: Oracle Database 10g, SQL, PL/SQL, Mainframe COBOL, Crystal Reports.

Description:

As part of the Main PAB system, there was a process which was developed in COBOL on the Mainframe system. To complete the processing of the PAB system the mainframe process was executed monthly. The process would take 1 day for execution and 3 days for total turn around time. MDOT would pay thousands of dollars to maintain this project on Mainframe. This system was also prone to bugs and errors. The Oracle system was created to do away the maintenance of the Mainframe system and reduce the turn around time. The process in oracle would take less than 15 minutes to execute and the turn around time was less than 2 hours. The oracle process also turned out to be more accurate as some of the records were skipped in the Mainframe process due to data entry error.
