Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the development and strategic planning for the migration of one of Confidential ’s top grossing applications (Online Payroll and Tax Payment) to AWS with over 1.2 million visitors daily.
  • Worked with a team of 10 including development, operations and DBA’s to build a CI/CD pipeline to seamlessly deploy applications into AWS. This included end-to-end automation for the creation of AWS infrastructure, VM’s and Docker containers, application deployment, CDN content updates, database schema evolution and Blue/Green deployments.
  • Interaction to the AWS API was through the AWS Ruby SDK. Deployment time was reduced to 20 minutes and include running application tests to greatly increasing reliability.
  • A YAML configuration file was used to described the application (WAR) artifacts, AWS autoscaling groups, application load balancers and security groups. This was stored into a Git revision control system to track application builds with deployment configuration and provided instant roll-back capabilities.
  • Automation included the deployment of the Jenkins application and pipeline using Docker containers configured as Jenkins workers into a Docker swarm.
