PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Senior Database Architect, Modeler

Confidential, New York

Responsibilities:

  • My responsibility includes supporting and enhancing existing FINRA regulatory reporting OATS and TSP Market Making for Virtu Financial that includes Darkpool, Algos, High Touch etc. I have created a new automated process for OATS rejected records pull and TSP unlink records from FINRA for manual repair and then automated FORE generation and submission to FINRA. Email notifications have been created for various statistical and alerting items that include inbound and outbound source data, OATS jobs completion and failure etc. Performance tuning has been done extensively to cut short time for Darkpool and Algos source data load and OATS processing. Archival process has been enhanced to tune the performance.
  • All the jobs are scheduled using cron. It calls shell scripts which internally invokes SQL*Loader for data load and Oracle code for business rules. Performance tuning has been extensively done by parsing source data using Python scripts, parallelism in scripts, Oracle partitioning, compression, indexing, materialized views, proper SQL join mechanisms, parallelism etc.

Environment: Oracle 11gR2, SQL, PL/SQL, SQL*Loader, Toad, GIT, Linux, Windows 7, cron, ksh/awk/Python scripts

Senior Database Architect, Modeler

Confidential, New York

Responsibilities:

  • Confidential is the Order and Execution Management System that captures Equities real-time transactional data from the message queue in FIX 5.0 format and persists it in Normalized format in ODS/Staging schema and finally loads into Data Warehouse / Data Mart schema for Regulatory reporting such as OATS to FINRA, MiFID II etc. Data Quality for various business rules are enforced using Informatica DQ tool against the ODS/Staging schema. Portal is created for Scorecard and Trending graphs and drilling down into the business rules details by calling database API. Performance is extreme importance since there is close to a billion messages to process for a business day across all the three regions - AMRS, EMEA and APAC and the database size is 250+ TB uncompressed (25+ TB compressed). Oracle Exadata Half Rack 11gR2 is the data layer with 4 RAC compute nodes and 7 storage cells to achieve this extreme performance using various techniques and Exadata features like Hybrid Columnar Compression, Partitioning, Smart Scan, Bloom Filters, Storage Indexes, Cell Smart flash cache etc., just to name few. Control-M is the job scheduler that calls ksh/perl scripts which in turn calls Java/Oracle/Informatica. Java process consumes the messages from the queue and persists in ODS/Staging schema. SQL and PL/SQL code is used for the entire ETL process from ODS/Staging schema to Data Warehouse / Data Mart schema.
  • Confidential is an automated solution for Citi to upload and review the reports for FINRA compliance, across various desks under APAC/EMEA/NAM regions’ Equities and Fixed Income businesses. Front end user interface (Java/Adobe Flex) interacts with Oracle database and most of the business logic is written using SQL and PL/SQL. All the jobs are created using Autosys with Unix scripts such as snapshot capture, Audit Reports Monthly/Weekly, Monthly Escalation Reports and Notifications to Overseeing Supervisors and Business Unit Managers. My responsibility includes review the existing system, eliminate all the existing issues (data and code), enhance the data model in both logical and physical model, SQL and PL/SQL development, extensive performance tuning, document the system, production deployment and business user support. I have designed and developed additional functionalities such as user entitlements, global holiday processing, review catalog versioning using SCD Type 2, globalization of the process across various time zones, revamp of email notifications, data abstraction layer for Business Objects etc. In a lead and architect role, I am managing a team of around 10 people both off-shore and on-site.
  • Confidential is a wealth management company for institutional and private clients and manages sub-advised assets. It uses third party tools like LVTS, Charles River to trade Equity, Fixed Income Securities. Compliance Online Monitoring and Exception Tracking (COMET) is an in-house developed Oracle based compliance tool which is used to enforce Pre-Trade, Intra Day and Post-Trade/Batch guidelines.
  • My responsibility is to create an automated regression test tool for COMET, enhance/bug fix the application, improve the database performance of the application, Data Mart and ETL process design and development for Fixed Income Performance Attribution from Jennison Data store (ODS) etc.
