Insurance Technical Expert On assignment to IBM for the conversion of Southern Corporation systems to be Y2K compliant. Southern Corporation has several thousand - computer programs written in Cobol Cobol II and ADS/O Version 12 . Prior to my joining the conversion team IBM and Southern Corporation had decided to renovate all code using a factory approach. As a result of this decision my responsibility included giving general advice on Y2K issues with regard to IDMS data constructs Cobol programming and JCL but specifically to review and advise on ADS/O programming and storage procedures in the IDMS database. Some of the issues we had to deal with and resolve included 1. A decision had already been made in this case to NOT expand all date fields. The decision was made to window existing dates using a fixed pivot point of 65. We had to identify all program code to be windowed. 2. All programs Cobol ADS/O must be identified and inventoried prior to the actual packaging and submission for code renovation. All programs had to be compiled and errors resolved prior to packaging and shipment. I had 966 dialogs to review. ADSOBCOM 3. ADS/O is not Y2K compliant sorted sets and indexed sets that had 2 digit dates as part of the key had to be identified and assessed fields with embedded dates had to be identified and assessed. If a field was to be expanded the impact on work records map records and work fields for comparison. All data field expansion program code would be the responsibility of the conversion team and would not be in the renovated code received from the off site factory. 4. All field expansion was to be windowed back to the programs and dialogs for minimum impact. 5. The possibility of an interface file a file produced in our system NUCLUIS that would be used in some other system all dates would be windowed so the data file would not be changed by the Y2K processing. 6. The actual windowing routine was taken from a model developed by IBM for CICS. I reworked the routine to be used in the ADS/O dialogs in this system. 7. Exits would be taken in sorts on dates for windowing. 8. Existing data had to be reviewed for the occurrences of apparent year codes.

in the responsibility of unifying the various control subsystems to improve network operator productivity and to enhance overall network management capabilities. He was the principal data base designer in the development of a control system supporting MCI network facilities. This control system was designed to support manned and unmanned operations and processed data into usable information and provided this information where it was needed. The control system also provided access to centralized information to the host IBM mainframe center. His specific role has been to review and define the requirements for the distributed data base methodology and control system architecture. This responsibility included defining the distribution/fragmentation algorithm for user data production data and control systems data to be stored throughout the MCI network. This control system was designed using several LANs each LAN in a ring topology with distributed data base capabilities and a long haul communications gateway.
