SQL Server DBA
Responsibilities:
- SQL Server Hardening: I was in charge of hardening 65 SQL Server database servers to comply with the DISA STIGs. I planned and executed SQL Servers upgrades and patch maintenance.
- I requested and installed server level certificates across all database servers and enforced instance-level encryption.
- I configured custom scripts to create SQL Alerts to notify all necessary team members of pending SQL Server issues such as I/O subsystem anomalies, insufficient resources and fatal errors. I setup SQL Trace and SQL Audit on all servers to comply with STIGs requirements. I implemented database encryption across 130 databases using SQL Server TDE using 256-bit AES encryption algorithm. I created a custom script to notify appropriate team members of hard disk storage levels below certain threshold.
- Standardize SQL Server Maintenance: I configured and setup SQL Server database backup, integrity check, and index and statistics maintenance as well as SQL Agent jobs across all 65 SQL Servers to meet organization SLA. I configured server-wide database backup compression that saves between 70-95% in storage space per database backup. I configured database mail notifications to alert all necessary team members of any agent job failures.
- Documentation: I am responsible for documentation of all 65 SQL Servers recording all security changes, modifications as part of the DISA requirements.
- Patching / Upgrades: I am part of the maintenance patching team that comes in after hours every 3rd Saturday of the month to apply all security patches, upgrades and updates.
