Responsibilities:

  • Designed and built core architecture that will provide the basis for building the rest of the application. Architecture makes heavy use of interfaces to allow for test driven development. Core architecture is built using the MVVM Pattern, C#, NHibernate, and Autofac. Unit tests are completed using NUnit with assistance from Rhino Mocks.
  • Designed and constructed flexible database structure for storing cruise content, customer data, and cruise booking data. The system is designed to support both multiple languages and currencies. Data is stored in Microsoft SQL Server Database.
  • Created website to allow content editors to seamlessly manage all the cruise content. All websites are built using ASP.NET MVC, utilizing tools from Kendo MVC and themed using Bootstrap.

Chief Technology Officer

Responsibilities:

  • Product lifecycle management oversight including Systems Engineering, Product Management, Project Management, and Quality Assurance.
  • Recruited and led team of talented developers responsible for building all in-house applications.
  • Designed and built multiple core architectures used to build all core applications and websites. The initial architecture was built in VB6. It was then replaced by architectures built in Java and Ruby (Ruby on Rails). This architecture supports the ability to privately brand websites as well as use multiple languages and currencies.
  • Designed all initial databases used to store all company data. Databases were primarily MS SQL Server but included MySQL as well.
  • Designed and lead developer on membership, loyalty, and prepaid travel package systems. These systems are built using MySQL as the database and Ruby on Rails for the front end. The ability to sell memberships and packages has generated 10’s of millions of dollars for the company. These products have allowed the company to continue to self-fund its growth.
  • Designed and lead developer of core cruise engine that remains one of keys to the company’s success. The cruise engine was initially built in VB6 but later rewritten in Java (JSP). The backend database is MS SQL Server. The system allows cruise bookings through Sabre, Galileo, Amadeus, and several direct cruise line connections. The system was used in the US, Mexico, Canada, United Kingdom, and Australia.

Senior Software Engineer

Responsibilities:

  • Inherited complex Informix 4GL code from founder who had recently passed away putting the future of the company at risk.
  • I made key changes to the reporting architecture to support adding required windows front end.
  • I also resolved several issues in the 4GL backend of the collection product.
  • Developed windows frontend for reporting product using VB3. The frontend was built in architecture created by the ELBS development team.
  • Rewrote Informix 4GL program that was required by the billing system to support the collection product.
  • The extract was taking longer than 48 hours to run at some of the largest law firms. I enhanced the technology resulting in extract times of under 8-12 hours at all firms. This saved several large accounts.
  • Modified Informix 4GL code to work against a MS SQL Server database rather than Informix. Modified reporting architecture and several reports to improve performance when running against a SQL Server DB. The queries had to be rewritten to handle differences in how Informix and SQL Server processed queries.
  • Designed and developed new extract program for collection systems running on MS SQL Server. Used stored procedures rather than the original 4GL program to complete extract. This significantly reduced the extraction time and was a key component in licensing their collection software to the world’s largest law firm (at the time).
  • Designed and created an application to build distribution disks that were sent out to reporting clients on a quarterly basis. Prior to the application it took a developer 80 man-hours to get the software ready to ship. This application allowed the same task to be completed within one hour. The application was written using a combination of Unix shell scripts and Informix 4GL.
