  • For spring 2014, I worked with a student to investigate MCODE clustering algorithm on a protein-protein interaction network where proteins are represented as nodes and the interactions between the proteins is represented by edges between the nodes. MCODE finds highly interconnected nodes in order to find clusters within the graph or network. We used Cytoscape for this, after running the experiment, a java application reads the files and calculate the mean and median to determine the best experiment options of the MCODE algorithm.

  • Risk Analysis for Acute Coronary Syndromes in Chest Pain Patients. Working on creating model to efficiently assist physicians in predicting ACS
  • esearched different methods for machine learning and classifications. Specifically and primarily I researched the factors for Acute Coronary Syndrome ACS and how to apply supervised machine learning algorithm to create a model to be used by physicians to predict chances of developing ACS in the first 30 days of treatment with new patients. The challenge was to learn the model parameters that are used for the prediction, and how to prove that a method or an approach shows a good or accepted accuracy. Some algorithms when given new datasets a testing mechanism to prove the accuracy of the algorithm showed a less accuracy compared to the training dataset used. In this research I used logistic regression and neural network using Weka java libraries. The prediction application interface can be written in any language and can be a web based but I wrote it in Java using NetBeans IDE. A video of the interface can be found on the LinkedIn page.
  • participated in a project along with other members to extract image, text, data features, index the feature, use open source systems to retrieve the data, either by supplying an image or text and getting related data to the query. Several feature algorithms were used in this research including SIFT, Histograms, etc.
  • TOOLS/Libraries: Eclipse, Weka Libraries, Git, Lire, Lucene
