PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
Confidential - New York, New York
SQL Developer, Application Programmer, Report Developer / Data Analyst / Business Analyst
Responsibilities:
- Worked independently and as Technical Lead Developer / Operations Expert employing a wealth of Technology Services (see page 3 for technology details), for Project Management (PMO) Business and Financial Operations, while also providing support for PMO Planview Operations.
- Worked in Operations to develop Confidential ’s Core Business and Financials managed by the PMO Group. This division creates, manages and implements businesses and services offered to Confidential ’s clients, generating the Revenue for Confidential, which is responsible for the company’s stronghold of the market share in its industry. At any given time, more than 100 business/finance projects were being managed in the PMO pipeline, necessitating the quick generation and delivery of Business and Financial Reports, summarizing operations employed for the release of each phase of every project.
- Worked with PMO and Financial Executives in WebEx and Conference Meetings with Planview to identify and resolve issues related to the integration and upgrade of vendor (Planview) maintained Big Data with Confidential operations
- Limited scope of outside vendor, Planview, reports and data provided: did not allow the use of Financial Concepts like the creation of the Efficient Frontier Curve (combination of projects with the more optimal return), to validate the Financial expectations produced by Finance Team, did not allow use of Business Analytics in report development
- High latency periods due to data transmission over lengthy remote network lines between PV and 3rd party vendor sites to Confidential ’s desktops, caused long wait times for reports requested by users to be created on their desktop
- With an understanding of the PMO business/financial needs, PMO data and using advanced technology skills, I was able to implement the necessary technology, management and user requirements, and troubleshoot problems encountered with the transfer of data from Planview’s site to Confidential ’s site
- Reconstructed PV’s limiting and simple reports into Analytical Reports that reflected the actual PM Operations
- Established a Direct pathway to obtain Confidential data, which enabled the use of Key business and financial data needed to in corporate Business Analytics into PMO Reporting
- Created Productivity and Financial Reports representing Key Indicators of the Business
- Created new reports reflecting historical and current operational and financial trends, for improved analysis and reporting of PM Operations
- Incorporated use of CapEx and OpEx data into business and financial reporting, which eventually flowed into the creation of Financial Reports (Income Statement, Balance Sheet, Statement of Cash Flows, Executive Management Reports, etc.), and enabled the production of Financial analysis like the Efficient Frontier Curve
- Participated in meetings with other Client Reporting Divisions to enhance development of Confidential global reporting structure and systems
- Passthrough Queries created to obtain live data from SQL Database, to develop advanced VBA Scripts, Tables, Queries and Forms used in the creation of business and financial reports
- Created the direct download of web data into Access for use in generating reports
- An Interface between Access and Excel enabled additional data manipulation and calculations used to generate operations and financial reports
- Produced automated processes for expedited creation of reports
- Automated processes released to business population enabled business users to independently manage the creation of their reports
- Provided advanced development of report creation, to streamline the next level of data presentation/report creation for the Operations Progress Report
- Created VBA Scripts, Queries, direct data Connections to SQL, and MS ACCESS interface to obtain data used in EXCEL to generate business and financial reports
- Directly downloaded and incorporated SQL data into EXCEL to create business and financial summary analysis in the form of Pivot Tables, complex Charts, Graphs, and Advanced Reporting Designs
- SQL data in Excel enabled complex Calculations in reports, to organize and group business and financial data by divisions by dates (Quarters, Years, Months, Historical and Current, etc.) for high-level financial and operations analysis and the analysis of trends by CapEx and OpEx categories to enhance the generation and validation of the Balance Sheet, Income Statement and Statement of Cash Flows, captured in Financial Reports to reflect the productivity of business operations relative to financial expenditures
- Created Stored Procedures, Complex Queries, Joins, Triggers, Views, Functions, Tables to enhance complex database needing modifications and updates to accommodate new Business Analytics Reports
- Cleansed SQL data using SSIS and Data Profiling Task to Cleanse Data
- Created direct Connections to SQL from within Visual Studio
- Created SSIS Data Flow and Control Flow Diagrams to extract, transform and load data between SQL, Visual Studio, Excel, and Access
- Created reports using SSRS from data extracted using SSIS, and data manipulated using SSAS
- Created an email application in Visual Studio to send emails to Program Managers and Management highlighting deficiencies identified in analytical reports, which resulted in the overall improvement of PM Operations
- This Key Alternate Route provided access to all of Confidential ’s financial and operational data, which opened the door to move Confidential PMO Reporting to the level desired by Financial and Operations Executives. With this discovery, several major improvements were implemented into business operations:
- Business Analytics and Financial Analysis of PM Operations could now be incorporated into the reporting of financial and operational data. Unification of a full scope of business and financial data enabled the analysis and validation of business assumptions using the actual operations data, which provided an accurate account of Financial Analysis of PM Operations
- This new information was ultimately summarized in the development of Productivity and Financial Reports for Executive Management which reflected Key Indicators of the Business, and allowed a thorough evaluation of how PM Operations and Finance were working together to accomplish goals identified by Finance. This ultimately provided information and findings to enable Executive Management to improve their decision-making process
- I was able to work independently to dissect, analyze and understand the SQL database architecture, system design, and advanced database development constructed over several years by the outside vendor, Planview and their IT Team
- The SQL System contained over 1,000 objects, including Stored Procedures, Complex Queries, Joins, Triggers, Views, Functions, Tables, Flat table structures to generate hierarchical structures and views, data structures used in conjunction with SSIS, SSAS, and SSRS, and other Business Intelligence Tools.
- Understanding the complexity of this advanced SQL System had to be accomplished within a very limited time span, in order to maintain the continuity of operations, and not interfere with the large quantities of projects in the pipeline, and their various phases
- Understanding of how this complex array of SQL architecture functioned, enabled Confidential to operate independently, and eliminate the need for and costs associated with outside vendor management of Planview reporting, which resulted in a significant cost savings for Confidential .
- With the understanding of this complex SQL structure/database created by the outside vendor’s IT Team, I was able to identify a pathway of direct access to obtain Confidential ’s PMO data needed to move Business and Financial Reporting to the required advanced level. This direct data access pathway identified, also alleviated the need to create reports by accessing data remotely over complex network lines from the outside vendor’s site, to Confidential ’s site and desktops.
- This direct access of PMO data for report creation, resulted in the re-structuring of Confidential ’s PMO reporting process, which included some of the following improvements:
- Re-negotiation of the outside vendor’s contract for development of the complex SQL system, which resulted in the removal of astronomical costs incurred by Confidential, while using the outside vendor to develop and manage a complex SQL System and Development of Reports. Savings from the re-negotiation translated into funds for increased headcount for the PMO Group (additional PM employees added to Confidential staff). Direct access of S data also enabled Confidential ’s PMO Group to create their own advanced Key Indicator Reports in-house. The new reporting structure incorporated the required advanced data analysis requested by Operations, Finance, and Executive Management, while also enabling the in corporation of Business Analytics into the PMO reporting structure. The resulting reports created highlighted productive and problematic operations used for process improvements
- Removal of remote data transmission for report creation which caused high latency periods. Direct access of the PMO data, for report creation, increased report generation efficiency by more than 90%.
