Senior DB2 DBA

Responsibilities:

  • Currently working as senior DB2 UDB DBA with primary responsibility of maintaining total 30 DB2 databases which include partitioned and non - partitioned databases.
  • I have gathered strong working experience of installing / uninstalling / configuring DB2 v9.7, v9.5, v8 and fixpacks on AIX operating system.
  • Also as a Senior DBA, I work to design the database layout ( defining tablespaces, bufferpools, indexes with their naming conventions ). Also, I work to design the mount point layouts and space requirements on AIX system to accommodate those databases.
  • I have designed and implemented a complete solution for database backups. This solution performs full / incremental and delta backups for each database depending upon the day of the week. For delta and incremental backups it also identifies if any tablespaces have been created and if so, it automatically backs them up. This script takes all the parameters and so is being used for all the databases including single and multi partitioned.
  • Have been working on improving query performance by working with Application Developers. I have identified many culprit queries by capturing them from snapshots. Then I've explained them and also have suggested proper indexes to improve performance.
  • Have independently worked on the restore database scenarios for single and multi partition databases. These cases include simple restores, restores with roll forwarding options and also scenarios where the load utilities might have happened during database backups. Also, the scenarios included single to multiple tablespace restores.
  • Have successfully implemented a cluster failover solution for DB2 databases by creating database instances on both failover nodes locally and configuring all data mount points on VERITAS.
  • Have successfully designed, documented and performed a Disaster Recovery exercise by crashing the database and then restoring the data as well as logs to bring the database status working as close to the disaster as possible.
  • Have independently worked on automating test cases for DB2 quarterly audit with Guardium tool. According to the company policy, we run audit report every quarter to identify vulnerabilities. I have automated all the SQL scripts and also worked on fixing all the vulnerabilities. This has helped DB2 audit pass with more than 90% success ratio.
  • I actively work with database development / architect teams to in corporate new tables / infrastructure in current database.
  • As a DBA, I've creaetd database maintenance scripts ( runstats / reorgs ) and also the health monitor scripts which have been put as kron jobs to make sure that the database is available and running. If not, it sends email to the DBA.
  • Working on on-call rotation with on-call pager and cellphone.
  • Great experience in database performance tuning and using tools like Quest foglight, spotlight for database performance monitoring.
  • Currently I am working to setup HADR for DB2 databases to increase availability. I am the primary DBA assigned to research and set these databases and test it to pass the Disaster Recovery test.
