• Member of HP’s Global DBA team that provided 24x7 tier 1 support for all mission critical and entity essential Oracle databases. Monitored over 10000 targets using OEM Grid Control including 2000+ RAC instances. Helped organization maintain 99.999+% availability.
• Primary DBA for over 300 databases with emphasis on SAP implementations. All databases ranged from 60-100 terabytes. Lead performance architect during the separation of critical financial systems during the split of HP into HPI/HPE.

Oracle DBA Consultant Danger

• Hired to help recover an unrecoverable database after a catastrophic outage. Responsibilities included reloading lost data utilizing the capabilities of OnTrack’s data recovery solutions and developed applications to validate, transform and merge data into existing infrastructure.
• Provided tier 1 support for all of Danger’s production RAC databases; also collaborated with management and technical staff onsite regarding architectural enhancements needed to prevent the chance of data/service loss in the future.

Member of Technical Staff Perlegen Sciences Mountain View

• Spearheaded all DBA activities for Perlegen Sciences including 24X7 administration and support for their 28+ terabyte bioinformatics database and several smaller Oracle databases used to support the company’s Lab Information Management (LIMS) and business subsystems.
• Designed and developed proactive database monitoring and alerting scripts including the automation and elimination of all level 1 type tasks (schema creation, password change and partition additions).
• Architected new backup strategy to meet the growth demands of the bioinformatics database (28 TB). Utilized Veritas’ snapshot capability to mirror the primary database to a remote SAN allowing the mirrors to be broken and mounted onto another server for database backup validation, copying to tape via NetBackup and other testing scenarios (upgrades and patches). Reduced back up time from days to minutes.
• Worked with developers to configure and tune Perlegen’s sophisticated compute pipeline that consisted of a 100 node compute farm that was designed to schedule and process requisite work flow tasks that matriculated from the biology lab to the database. Implemented a reliable, repeatable and deterministic method of isolating system performance problems within all the pipeline applications by triggering the activation of Oracle trace data (event 10046) dynamically so reasonable throughput could be maintained per corporate Service Level Agreements (SLA).
• Tuned critical business processes related to genotyping that were taking several days and reduced their runtimes to less than 24 hours exceeding all SLA.
• Designed and implemented an automated data archival/retrieval system that saved the company 10+ terabytes of online storage and thousands of corporate dollars.

• Lead Oracle DBA during development and implementation of BaaN 4b and 4c ERP software to support order management and finance at AMD. Tasks included administration of up to 20 databases to support development life cycle including development, functional test, integration, training and production. Worked with system administrators to implement and verify backup/restore procedures and development of server and database standards for OFA compliant databases.

• Provided Oracle DBA support for the Lockheed Executive Information System (LEIS), a client/server system running Oracle on a SUN server and supporting MAC clients.
