  • As a freelance business development consultant and proposal writer, I have worked for small and large companies that are building their Confidential business portfolios.

Sr. Technical Writer/ Analyst

Responsibilities:

  • I was among many technical professionals who were contracted to support the systems migration process for the new entity, renamed Guidehouse.
  • As a senior technical writer and business analyst, I analyzed existing documentation of critical business processes (as-is) and compared them to the to-be specifications as closely as possible to determine potential updates, identify gaps in all existing documentation.
  • The systems included all financial, human capital and analytics. The new company’s systems and processes, 100% cloud-based, were to be fully migrated and ready to run on a specific cut-over date.
  • I was tasked to rewrite almost 25 documents that comprised a major portion of the existing system documentation, identify and correct workflow errors that came out of the transformation/ migration process, and to determine a best-case strategy for presentation and access for users, primarily Help Desk personnel.
  • The documentation also required the creation of new and revision of existing work flow diagrams (Visio > pdf), docx or pptx > pdf).
  • I performed this role remotely along with others on the team, collaborating via conferencing apps and sharing and exchanging documents securely via ShareFile© and other tools.

Sr. Technical Writer/ Analyst

Responsibilities:

  • As part of a team supporting the operations and maintenance of an internal portal for many of Confidential ’s mission critical applications, I worked with ColdFusion and Flex developers and Oracle d Confidential base administrators to update system documentation, SOPs, user guides and materials as revisions and enhancements were completed, tested and deployed.
  • I worked with the QA analyst to test and verify new and revised functions.
  • I became the team’s interim Business Analyst when that role was unexpectedly vacated just as we began work on a major contract deliverable, the annual Confidential Real Property Profile (FRPP).
  • The FRPP is a comprehensive report that is submitted to GSA, ultimately delivered to Office of Management and Budget (OMB), which details the quantity and disposition of real property resources used by the Confidential government.

Sr. Technical Writer

Responsibilities:

  • I supported a matrixed team that performed security assessments of multiple agency systems.
  • I worked with Confidential guidelines, i.e., FIPS 199, FIPS 200 and SP rev 4, supporting security analysts while aggregating findings from system scans and other evaluations to create and structure required documents, including the Security Assessment Plans (SAP), System Security Plans (SSP) and other task deliverables.
  • Although brief, my time at NOAA was the most valuable for the quality of hands-on experience with system assessments.
  • On my first day, I was handed a draft SSP (system security plan) for one of NOAA’s largest mission-critical systems.
  • Fortunately, I was familiar with FISMA and related FIPS standards.
  • When I joined the team, system boundaries had been determined and signed off (FIPS 199 and FIPS 200).
  • Engineers and analysts addressed the controls and prepared responses to POA&Ms.
  • As technical writer, I ensured that the assessment results were reported accurately using the templates provided and that the language for the POA&Ms and responses were well-written and easily understood.

  • I performed multiple writing and communications roles for Confidential ’s multi-year internal re-badging project, among the first non-government implementations
  • I worked with engineers, analysts, architects and other SMEs to document systems, processes and procedures for various proprietary components of a new credentialing system as Identity and Access Management became a critical part of threat protection.
  • The system produced credentials that are commonly referred to as PIV or CAC cards.
  • This was my first role dedicated to a large identity management/ information assurance project.
  • Guided by members of NGC’s corporate communications staff, I created employee-facing communications for the project.
  • I produced almost a dozen and informational videos as well as print materials to socialize over 120,000 employees and contractors to the new credentialing process and the badge, which would provide greater security for personnel as well as physical and logical assets.
  • The videos informed users about HSPD-12 and the need to adopt the new credentials that required tougher user vetting, while introducing enhanced security and privacy features and benefits.
  • Videos also informed users about the actual badging process and how to prepare and care for the new badge, and finally, how to use their new credentials for access to corporate resources.
